Unfortunately, the people who most need to learn this are the ones who won’t pay any attention.
Who really deserves a medal is Sh’Carri Richardson. I was watching running today and it sucks not seeing her up there. The person who took her place is definitely not the same. I mean weed does not effect your ability to run better but it does help cope with loss
first, participation trophees. Now, quitting trophees.
and what a sweet, wonderful soul to do that for America.
Good for her and Ms. Osaka. No one should sacrifice their minds and bodies for anything. BTDTGTTS.
No, but at least we now know who they are.
These games should never have happened, due to covid. She’s an outstanding gymnast and so are all the others. Pressure can do a number on some. Good for you, Simone, for not caving to the trolls and pressures.
But that great athlete Piers Morgan thinks she should die for the team. I doubt he could be on a team of anything as he is such a jerk.
I wonder when Simone became aware of her lack of positional awareness. This was one of the qualities that set other gymnasts apart from her, that she was aware of where she was anywhere in her tricks. Without it, she could experience serious injury. I wonder if the one year postponement had anything to do with its loss.
A former coach who sexually preyed on the young girls under his “care”. Dealing with issues from her being Black. Working god knows how many hours per day on her craft while being in school, trying to fit in friends and family. Nope, no pressure…/s
Well done, Ms Biles!
I don’t see the “mental” health connection. Knowing the limits of your body does not mean you’re a nut case.
You go Girl…… More Power to You !
She described her problem as the “twisties” which is similar to the “yips.” Is that truly a mental health problem? Could be because it is based upon mental control.
Thanks for your insight and position on this Clay Bennett!
Once again, Simone Biles, America’s Class Act!
Look at today’s cartoon by Michael Ramirez for the hate that can be generated by a conservative point of view . . . on mental health.
Look at today’s troll post by “Donaldo” for the misanthropy generated by a conservative point of view, though there’s nothing “conservative” about being an a$$hole.
I’d say that being chosen among the most elite of athletes far exceeds “participation”. And contrary to jingoistic, fascist belief of which “Donaldo” apparently fits, the world sent their own elite athletes as participants, too.
Maybe the last time he chanted “U-S-A!” was when his fellow fascist traitors attacked the Capitol in the name of a criminal wannabe-dictator with blood on his hands.
Most Excellent ♥♥ Thanks Clay.
I don’t follow sports at all, but some things just trickle into “real” news.
I see that some star athlete (tennis?) has cancelled some press conferences for reasons of mental health. I say good for her—she doesn’t owe anything to anyone.
I see that some star gymnast has cancelled her participation in the Olympics because she has a feeling of not being able to complete some moves that, if not done exactly right, could leave her terribly damaged and/or hurt her team’s scores. To her, I would say, good for her, and that’s just common sense and good judgment.
I see where Miss Biles is getting hate and discontent from people that the closest they ever came to an athletic event is buying athletes foot meds at Walmart.
