I would be able to live royally on $250,000 per year. Many of us have to do it for much less.

    How is $250K middle class?

If Social Security is cut, I’d like a full refund of all my contributions.

I’m with you, Clark and ruff, even though I have two years to go and have zero income.

Military spending is a Ponzi Scheme…no money in it…I guess we should abandon defence because it costs so much. The real values of America aren’t simply the BUCK and it’s holy works.

SS would be a perfectly rational insurance plan if Congress hadn’t robbed the trust fund, and folks realized it was intended as a supplement and “security blanket”, NOT a full pension. It currently might run into real trouble– around 2075!

Now, if you want to make sure you don’t have to do anything to any “corporate entitlement programs”, just keep putting SS at the head of the list to cut, and CEOs will laugh hysterically as the country rebels against THEIR cuts!

INCREASE taxes, ELIMINATE “deductions and dodges”, and balance the budget. Start cutting where it counts- in defense, agricultural and commercial subsidies, and cheap giveaways of the nation’s natural resources to corporations.

The “hard cuts” are only hard because corporations are the real beneficiaries of the cuts that need to be made.

I noticed Congressional Retirements weren’t mentioned as a cost cutting suggestion. Serve 1 term, 15% of salary, serve 2 terms, 20% of salary, etc. My husband got 50% of salary as annuity at about 30 years in Civil Service. Paid into SS, but got nothing from it.

I am 60 now, paid into SS since 18 working in a gas station. College, supervisor, started businesses, worked until my businesses failed after 26 years. Can’t get a job, trying two years. Living on savings, started another business which is breaking even, no income for me. No health insurance now, too expensive, savings won’t last many years. I studied hard, learned at the University, worked hard, saved, started businesses.

Now I am just some bum that would like a job or income for work or get my SS check. Through me under the bus so some guy that didn’t start a business and make payroll for 15 people or get a University degree or do anything except figure out how to charge people erroneous checking or credit card fees for a big bank get his million dollar bonus for figuring out how to rob the US people.

Unfortunately we have been doing similar dirty things to our Veterans for a long time as well. Some system.
