    Bottom line…the embargo hasn’t worked.

It didn’t put Castro out of power, and it sure as heck didn’t stop him from trying to, ‘export the revolution abroad.’ Angola to name one example.

Nor did it prevent Fidel from shipping all his criminals to the US during the Mariel crisis.

Andy, our “principled” leaders backing Pinochet, Argentine generals, and revolutions in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Venezuela, Grenada, etc to overthrow elected governments? Normal relations just meant U.S. corporations getting whatever they wanted in the hemisphere.

Heaven forbid that we should have relations with despotic regimes.

Correction, ANandy- previous presidents were men of principle; determined not to normalize international relations with and thereby endorse the COMMUNIST despot.

They were, however, quite willing to deal with right-wing despots like Pinochet, Batista, Duvalier, Somoza, Marcos, Suharto, or the Shah of Iran.

There was no principle in singling out Cuba, only politics.
