You forget that the goal of the authoritarian right wing is to make democracy as obstructive, dysfunctional, corrupt, and even embarrassingly hypocritical as possible to justify its policies.
Do the Republicans have someone in their midst that is actively spending millions trying to make that party look like a pack of cretinous idiots? Or is it a desire to ruin the country so that corporations can finally take over and do away with all this democracy stuff?
