Quotas annoy me. But it may be that in order to bring folks up to actual equality, we need to give them a little assistance. Can’t vote for a black female director until there is a black female director (or whatever category)… Or it may be that we simply need to change two little rules about how the nominees and winners are selected:
1 Use quotas to select the folks who vote (not who’s nominated)
2 Use quotas to adjust the list of “possible nominees” from which actual nominees are chosen.
