What keeps me from Libertarianism is their assumption that all human beings are capable of rational decisions. They do not adequately account for children & the infirm. Full-blown Socialism is the opposite: ultimately, they want elite educated rulers to control decisions for everyone.
I like Subsidiarity. Each level of government or social organization exists to support the lower level & perform functions they cannot. 2 examples: Local schools exist to support families who have the responsibility to educate their children. Military is a federal responsibility because lower entities cannot. cf. www.acton.org
