Calvin invents a new onomatopeia
Caves are too scary for a 6yo boy anyway; you’ll never know what wild creatures reside therein.
With enough practice, they’ll be ready for the real deal.
First time I heard this joke (yes, “heard”, not read) it was a long shaggy dog story about a sailor who created a “Cushmaker”.
When I was a kid, I thought all caves had wooden walks in them.
This is weirdly therapeutic.
Two entertainments, bubbles going up and rocks going down….
Oh… Min just go Sploosh!
Go ahead and make a splash, boys!
I didn’t comment yesterday because I was out in the rain. And yet, I feel fine.
flexible thinking is Calvin’s strong point. Any rule has an alternative application
Nothing like a good “spelunk” to make a boy feel good!
I must be doing it wrong. I go kaplunking.
SPELUNKING ! ! Used to do it all the time !
Another afternoon well spent.
Oh, the delicious sound of a rock plunging into a pond!
Poor rocks. 11,000 years, since the last ice age, to get out of the water and into the sun and, spelunk, it’s back to the bottom.
When I was 14, my best friend and I rolled a 150-pound boulder off a 200-foot cliff into the water. When it hit, it sounded like glass breaking.
Cavin try walking in that water with rocks, at least you are not throwing glass that breaks into shards.
I thought that was ’Spelooooshing"
How did he get that past splelunk checking?
This is one of my all-time favorite Calvin and Hobbes strips.
I skipped some rocks yesterday. Hadn’t done it in a while. Lots of fun.
I love Calvins type of spelunking
He’s not wrong…
No caver calls it “spelunking.”
Calvin can just build his own cave out of a big cardboard box
This one will always be special to me. Specifically, younger me.
Spaceman Spiff is fearless, He would explore.
OMG, somebody call the cops!, Calvin and Hobbes are drowning rocks!….ooh the inhumanity of it all.
Can’t even begin to count the sheer number of hours me and my friends would do this when we were kids. Either this, or trying to skip stones across the pond. Both of which you just don’t see kids doing all that much these days…..
I once heard my friend Jim Post* tell an audience (I’ll let you guess where) that if you drop a quarter in a toilet, the sound it makes is “Beloit”.
*You may not have heard of him, but you have heard him; he was half of Friend & Lover (“I think it’s so groovy now/That people are finally getting together/I think it’s wonderful and how/That people are finally getting together”).
But you can FIND-OUT!!!
Throwing rocks in the water is fun. I miss those days as a kid.
These are all recycled.
Now THAT is fun
