Giant rubber monsters fighting is a universal language.

Well, Hobbes, foreign films now are just inscrutable.

They could be any monsters, really.

Have any of you, C&H readers, ever acquired a foreign film? I recall once planning on getting Chinese film One-Man Olympics which was the story of the first Chinese Olympian who, by himself, went to the 1932 Games in Los Angeles, but the DVD region isn’t compatible with the U.S.

All this does is remind me of how freakin’ hard it is to watch Kamen Rider in America

Could also be two tiny clay animation monsters. Equally entertaining.

In Australia there is a national broadcaster dedicated to multiculturalism, that airs films in their original language (with subtitles of course)

Apparently not inaccessible enough.

As long as it has big rubber monsters and lots of action, Calvin’s happy as a clam.;D

Japanese cast, with dialogue poorly dubbed into English.

Godzilla vs Mothra or Godzilla vs. Megalon!

And if mom objects, you can say that you’re learning about a foreign culture…

“AAAARGHHHH” and “EEEEEKKK” sound the same in any language, Calvin!

Reminds me of all those hours spent at Blockbuster searching for Godzilla movies with my grandson.

I’d love to see Godzilla return. What would be a good Host city?

Kurosawa it ain’t.

How accessible they are depends on whether you’re dealing with the NTSC or PAL format.

Would it be a Toho-produced movie, by any chance?

What is Calvin looking at? It isn’t a phone or a tablet. It isn’t even a laptop. No, it can’t be! I think it could be a long rumored and whispered about but never seen object of legend! I think he is holding a paper TV Guide! Someone call the Smithsonian!

As long as there are no Kennys in it.

I have vivid memory of Giant Robot fighting the rogues in Japan. My kids call it kind of fossil robots.

We had a cynical, sharp-tongued kid in HS who thought he was sooooo intellectually superior because he watched only foreign films (early 60s). He became quite tedious.

Only as long as you watch it with subtitles.

How would they understand?

Love those kinds of movies.
