It was always the lack of steering that made a toboggan seem like a suicide machine to me.

Good. Safety is for control freaks

To be fair, he didn’t say it had to PASS a safety check.

A great winter tradition, surviving the toboggan run.

Icing on the cake: Text while your driving the sled (I know, they didn’t have that back then….)

I have a great sledding story involving a fractured femur and almost killing a friend’s kid, but I’ll save it for the next time we’re out at the local brew pub.

I grew up in NE Ohio – some great hills just across the street from our house. My grandfather was a tinsmith and built a toboggan that could fit about eight kids. It had strut guides for control on the sides. Everyone went nuts when we showed up. It took at least two of us to pull it up the hill. But it was a fast, wild ride on the way down! Some great memories! Thanks, Grandpa!

Being too safe can take the fun out of fun,

I loved tobogganing, even though I split mine in half on a covered rock.

And so Calvin and Hobbes launch into 2020 with wild abandon. It is fitting.
