The Mom is me, Calvin is my husband. I have threatened (loudly at times) that I WILL install a lock box over the thermostat.

Local franchise store had a thermostat that was controlled in another state! It was stifling in the summer so they came up with a great idea. They put a hair dryer blowing on it. Store became much cooler thereafter.

For all of those lamenting on the “video game” generation(s), I am a mom. 2 young ones, and there are no video games or even TV in our home. I am not against it. I’m NOT! But they get SO MUCH at school, at their dad’s, even on the school bus, that I feel I must! And yes, when they play outside after school and even on weekends, they are almost always ALONE. There are many young children in our very safe neighborhood, but they are all indoors doing homework, then the screen stuff with any leftover time. A mom was saying to me “LOOK at him! FAT! WHEN did he get so FAT??!?” So she humiliated him, still feeds him (he’s quite young) whatever he whines for, and signed him up for karate. What has happened to just letting kids PLAY??!?

Maybe they only have a little money to start with! Not everyone can afford central heating.

Most of the thermostats in my high school were covered in boxes except for one. That device was often the target for ice cubes for turning up the heat. One time the room got too hot, so someone tried to warm it up by covering the thermostat with a glove. Unless the device generates its own heat, and it shouldn’t, the glove will only insulate the thermostat and keep it cold. You would think high school students would know this, except at this high school.

The house of FoxTrot is colder. It was once at the temperature of oxygen’s point of turning into a liquid!

In the winter 68 F is fine and 78 F in the summer. Dress according to the actual outside temperature. Don’t wear a sweater in the summer then complain about being too hot.

I’m guessing to tell everyone to chill out on the thermostat thing might be going too far…

    Well?

When human life began, we only wore our birthday suits and everyone was happy. If we were cold, we’d just snuggle together to share body heat. Believe me, I love this simple solution!

Then, a creepy serpent made a suggestion to one of our predecessors, and lo and behold, birthday suits were no longer “suitable” and we quickly ran to the local store for warm fur coats! Of course, some folks then suggested it was a “sin” to wear animal skins to keep warm!

    It’s been downhill ever since…

I keep the thermo at 70° all year, and my electric bill is lower than at any other temp.

Calvin has a good mom:) My mom would say cold? I’ll show you cold! Then lock me in the basement:( I didn’t know what it was to live above ground until I moved into my own apartment:) Yes there are people who live in my apartment building’s basement . . . but I think they are sub-human or something:)
