Navy jets use a contraption similar to Calvin’s when they land on ships. It is known as an airplane hanger.

I wonder if Dad will ever regret all the times he had the chance to play with his son and read a book instead.

Well, Calvin’s dad is an attorney and not an inventor! This might explain why he is not very creative….Wait, did I just say attorneys are not creative?

In response to Hobbe’s comment, I don’t think we should get too “hung up” over today’s strip…

Of course, any fortune made would be gobbled up by the cost of new pants…

I always liked when they made little nods to Dad’s occupation as a patent attorney. Even Mom has her own hobbies (gardening and reading mostly).

Not the first time Calvin attempted to invent something.

Give the kid a patent app and tell him to fill it out. Make this a “teachable moment.” If he ever does complete it, tell him you’ll submit it, then a year later tell him it was denied. Piece of cake.
