Mom and Dad know that burden excruciatingly well, Calvin.
My mind seems to have receded.
This is the vocubarly of an eight year old????
This is freaking genius!!!!
everyone will love you Calvin..
Did Calvin grow up to become Newt Gingrich?
He’s so great, his legs are the axes around which planets and stars revolve.
He sounds EXACTLY like Bucky Katt (Get Fuzzy).
I still need to fire up my dictionary app to find out what those words mean.
“Jealousy is the tribute mediocrity pays to genius.” – Fulton J. Sheen
Is Calvin watching “The Big Bang Theory”? or is he an off- spring of Sheldon?
Did Calvin grow up and change his name to Newt?
@orinocowomble – Lazy fat Womble always trying to catch an extra forty winks or an extra portion of pudding. Orinoco wears a floppy red hat and scarf.
Jealous lesser intellects are the bane of civilization. First Socrates, now Calvin, who next?
Charlie Sheen must identify with Calvin.
@carl craig neither does Calvin, but it sounds good :)
I’m sure you think you’re the center of the Universe, Calvin, but you’ll find out soon enough that everything does not revolve around you and your underpants.
@ananomoose,If your mind seems to have receded, maybe it needs to be reseeded! :o)Your humility is still intact, though, so you remain ananomoose!
Calvin, you FORGOT to put on your pants!
Hobbes ’trench’ant comment about Calvin’s planet-and-star underpants indicates that his mind is in the gutter.
He should wear Klein’s underpants.
Intelligence and common sense are not the same thing. Now go put your pants on Calvin.
At times I feel over looked to.
Hobbes, YOU don’t even WEAR underpants.
He does when he’s in the swimming pool!
I hope Calvin’s head doesn’t grow any bigger!
He’s got Merlin underoos. Magical.
It doesn’t help when the cartoonist can’t spell, either. It’s “on a higher plain”, not air"plane"
If one’s genius could be gauged by not wearing trousers, I suppose putting on Ninja Turtles boxers could say something about my status.
@Craigj3534 – you might want to consult an online dictionary before attempting to criticize the cartoonist’s choice of words – “plane” in this sense is very much appropriate.
1. a flat or level surface. 2. Geometry . a surface generated by a straight line moving at a constant velocity with respect to a fixed point. 3. Fine Arts . an area of a two-dimensional surface having determinate extension and spatial direction or position: 4. a level of dignity, character, existence, development, or the like: a high moral plane. 5. Aeronautics . a. an airplane or a hydroplane: to take a plane to Dallas. b. a thin, flat or curved, extended section of an airplane or a hydroplane, affording a supporting surface.
1. clear or distinct to the eye or ear: a plain trail to the river; to stand in plain view. 2. clear to the mind; evident, manifest, or obvious: to make one’s meaning plain. 3. conveying the meaning clearly and simply; easily understood: plain talk. 4. downright; sheer; utter; self-evident: plain folly; plain stupidity. 5. free from ambiguity or evasion; candid; outspoken: the plain truth of the matter.
Watterson’s usage of “plane” is correct.
I don’t know what smartypants invented underpants, but thank God they did…..
“Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in everyway. I can’t wait to look in that mirror cause I look better everyday. To know me is to love me cause you can see that I’m a hell of a man. Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble but I’m doing the best I can!”
Judge not a man by the design on his underwear. Genius comes in many different (and strange) shapes.
Could be that he might be a “Boy of Destiny” precisely because of his planet and star underpants?
What’s another word for Thesaurus?
But I quite love the genius (in comic form) of Watersons Calvin. Not sure it’d be as much fun if Calvin was just a six year old with a six year olds mind. And where would Hobbes be if not conjured by such a mind?
This comic has lots of meaning that a lot of people don’t pick up on. The outward appeareance is a comic for kids but if you actually look at it it has a lot of adult humor. People take this comic to seriously.
