I’m sure you think you’re the center of the Universe, Calvin, but you’ll find out soon enough that everything does not revolve around you and your underpants.

Hobbes ’trench’ant comment about Calvin’s planet-and-star underpants indicates that his mind is in the gutter.

It doesn’t help when the cartoonist can’t spell, either. It’s “on a higher plain”, not air"plane"

If one’s genius could be gauged by not wearing trousers, I suppose putting on Ninja Turtles boxers could say something about my status.

@Craigj3534 – you might want to consult an online dictionary before attempting to criticize the cartoonist’s choice of words – “plane” in this sense is very much appropriate.

    @ Craigj3534:

    Definitions:

    Plane:

    1. a flat or level surface. 2. Geometry . a surface generated by a straight line moving at a constant velocity with respect to a fixed point. 3. Fine Arts . an area of a two-dimensional surface having determinate extension and spatial direction or position: 4. a level of dignity, character, existence, development, or the like: a high moral plane. 5. Aeronautics . a. an airplane or a hydroplane: to take a plane to Dallas. b. a thin, flat or curved, extended section of an airplane or a hydroplane, affording a supporting surface.

    Plain:

    1. clear or distinct to the eye or ear: a plain trail to the river; to stand in plain view. 2. clear to the mind; evident, manifest, or obvious: to make one’s meaning plain. 3. conveying the meaning clearly and simply; easily understood: plain talk. 4. downright; sheer; utter; self-evident: plain folly; plain stupidity. 5. free from ambiguity or evasion; candid; outspoken: the plain truth of the matter.

Watterson’s usage of “plane” is correct.

But I quite love the genius (in comic form) of Watersons Calvin. Not sure it’d be as much fun if Calvin was just a six year old with a six year olds mind. And where would Hobbes be if not conjured by such a mind?

This comic has lots of meaning that a lot of people don’t pick up on. The outward appeareance is a comic for kids but if you actually look at it it has a lot of adult humor. People take this comic to seriously.
