I AM (past) 65. And medicare (along with a quite reasonably priced “Advantage” insurance plan) has been extremely nice to have. So, the free jabs feel normal to me. But I can sure see how you whipper snappers would get addicted. I wonder why the GQP missed the boat on forcing us to pay for them.

“Booster fog”? Sounded like you were on the verge of an anxiety attack.

Free health care after 65? Not for most in the U.S. But an enjoyable strip, Mr. McFadden.

I have been on Medicare for 5 years now and next year will be paying $170 a month in Medicare premiums. If you calculate the present value of the Medicare premiums I/my employer paid over 45 years which comes to about $100k (adjusted at 5%) and then amortize that over 15 years (until age 80) I am in effect paying $700 month. My former employer is also paying 100% for my BC/BS supplement plan. As an active employee they paid 100% for my BC/BS policy which is also currently about $700.

Gotta tell him, medicare just caved to big pharma and we ALL are paying a LOT more. Almost $200 a month isn’t free. The reasonable “advantage” insurances have dropped ALL my providers so provide no free choice and increasing premiums on TOP of the medicare $25 increase. No free lunch in this country

People wonder how the Medicare Advantage plan can offer more benefits and spend millions of $ on advertising. When the Advantage plan started Medicare would pay the plans based on their subscribers’ age/race/sex and the projected cost to cover that person so they would get say $400 month for a 65 year old white man and $550 for a 80 year old black women. Now the plans get paid based on the individual’s actual condition based on the doctor’s coding. So, we have “upcoding”-upcoding occurs when hospital/doctors bill for patient treatment at the highest severity level even though the patient’s care was routine. This enables the plans to receive higher payments from Medicare which they do not have to return any surplus . Medicare pays the plans 20% over what they would have spent on that patient.

Interesting variation on Mr. McFadden’s part — five panels of continuity, rather than a series of one-panel gags.

Cracking up, I’m getting ready to go

Had enough, I can’t take any more

No pills that I can take

This is too real and there ain’t no escape

    It scare the daylights

    It make a nightmare

    I’m tense and I’m nervous

    Everybody all around me

    Shakin’ hands and sayin’ howdie

    I don’t think it’s funny no more

Tried to arrange to get my covid booster shot. None of the local branches of my pharmacy have it. I would have to wait a week and drive 15 miles. I hope that situation improves.

Turn on the tv and Biden says, “Go get your booster shots NOW!!!” Yeah right.

@donut reply My booster drive-and-wait experience was similar, except that my only emotional reaction to the drive and the wait was: I am mighty glad to get this shot.
