Friedman does lean on the use of metaphors a lot, but I didn’t think he was quite that bad. He wrote something about a president and party with no shame not too long ago, not a big Trump fan. He wrote a book titled The Earth is Flat a few years ago. He didn’t mean this literally.

Also, I can think of no group who leans on metaphors more than editorial cartoonists.
