@GDSMom.Glad you are recovering. Take it slowly. Things will seem rough for a while, but be clear that you can get back to pretty much normal.

Here’s my story. When I had my heart replumbed (getting on for five years ago) it took me six months before I could get back on the Aikido mats. (Three months for the ribcage to heal.) Yes, I had horrible cramps for a while. Getting into and out of bed required a special technique. The day after I got home from the hospital I went for a walk with my wife. I walked for about four minutes, paused for two, and then four minutes back home and sat down exhausted. Same again next day. Then added a little more. Just to the next tree. After a while I was walking with my son. Twenty minutes. Oh. A hill. Turn round and go home. But the day came when I was walking for forty minutes, up a steeper slope than that hill. And I went on a rehab course at the local hospital. (Aust. health system, so no fees.)

Tonight I am going to teach the kids’ Aikido class and then teach most of the adults’ class.

Remember, then, (at the risk of sounding like someone else)yes, you can.

I remember the “Life Alert” commercial for the little old lady who fell and could not get up. Man that has been around for a long time, since the early ’90s. My parents were still alive then and my Mom warned all of us kids; “Do not even think about buying one of those &^%$^^^**** things for me!” . Anyhow good strip today.

I wish everyone a nice holiday on Monday except for Notre Dame for sneaking into Tallahassee and winning in OT :( But seriously to all Fighting Irish fans out there: good game! You can’t win them all, especially FSU now that Coach Bowden is gone…….

And then one morning, you try to twist off the cap on a new jar of jelly. And you can’t. And the rubber gripper doesn’t help. And you sprain your thumb! Then you empty your kitchen drawers looking for an old fashioned “church key” so you can PRY up the cap until you hear the seal pop. And your poor thumb will never be the same. :-(

I never knew age to be a burden

    Fell off a chair, my knee’s a-hurting

All I want is to feel just like I’m thirty

I’ll never get my to-do list done

    Lupin’s a brat, that’s for certain

All I want is for him to show some empathy

    Am I sad enough?

    Am I strong enough?

    Am I spry enough?

    I need some sympathy

    I’ll never say Lupin’s a burden

His words in jest aren’t meant for hurtin’

Never, never, never, never, never, never, never mean

I don’t need no comedy, Lupin

I need some fussing, I need some nursing

Never, never, never, never, never, never, clumsy me

I’m almost 59 (yikes) I’m more cautious but can still do those kinds of things despite some heavy wear on my knees. Currently, I am disassembling old stone walls in my woods, (there are miles of them) and reassembling them around the property, as decorative walls and gardens. By myself, I move about 3 tons in five trips with my tractor and trailer. The largest of the stones are +100 pounds I can easily lift, with a self-imposed limit of 250. When I told her, my wife made me promise I won’t lift anything over 200 because I’m “old” LOL sigh…

Georgia, are you sending me a warning thru the BCNverse? I recently rediscovered a lovely picture that had been hiding under the bed. (I’m doing some serious Marie Kondo-ing). I’ve been thinking about hanging it above the sofa. Unfortunately, the sofa, a convertible, is too heavy for me to move, so I’ll have to climb the sofa to hang the picture. Maybe I should rethink….

40?! that’s nothing! wait until you hit 65! but until you DO hit 65, start walking and climbing as many stairs as you can; and put down the pizza and beer. Old age approaches slowly, and all you have to do is be faster.

The real problem is that if we have had any injuries that were completely healed when we were younger, they like to come back and say things like,“Hi there! Remember me? I decided to visit again.” I spent years doing gymnastics and managed to sprain almost everything at some point. And sure enough, they’ve been dropping by to visit and some don’t know when to go away.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Queen Catshepsut the Golden: To kick off the Celebration of the Worker the Red Dot Choir, led by Tabith-Isis will perform the La Di Dah Minuet.

Choir: La di dah, di dah de dah…..

Tabith-Isis: And now, we will perform a number with Serfig-Aro’s 76Trumpet Class.

    Parade Commences

    Choir and Trumpets:

Seventy-six young cats led the big parade

While a hundred and ten choir members sang the song

They were followed by Lupin’s tumblers

    Performing their routine numbers

And banners by Sophi and Maat-Tilda!

    …….

Seventy-six young cats led the big parade

While a hundred and ten choir members sang the song

    The Royal Procurers then breezed

    Through the town with cheese

And Thomios prepared a banquet for them all!

    …….

There were stories read from scrolls by Elvis he inscribed,

Someone was running, Beatrix charging by

    Puckmosis, with a great smile

Told the stories with great style

While people listened with great joy!

    …….

Seventy-six young cats led the big parade

While a hundred and ten choir members sang the song

Then I quietly took my place

At the 2 am great race

And knocked over every lamp in sight!

A bit of advice when you finally realize that you need step stools and ladders because it’s too hard to step up on the chair—make sure to count the steps. If you think you’re stepping off the bottom step when you’re really stepping off the next to the bottom step. there are consequences. I have the scars to prove it!

Due to my ongoing (two years now) hip problems, I no longer have the strength to step up on a chair, which I used to do with regularity. Now, since a chair is a broader, more stable surface, I use my little two-step ladder to step onto the chair. And try to only do that when Partner is around to steady me. And lately, I’ve been investing in light bulbs that are supposed to last 15 years or so.

I was at a big box hardware store in the plumbing aisle when a man came and picked up a forty gallon water heater. He grunted as he set it on the dolly, looked at me and said “Don’t turn 40.” I didn’t have the heart to tell him I was 50.
