Wow! Jules is really enthusiastic about Agatha. Maybe he helped her defeat the Owl back in the day. And Natasha is so thrilled she’s having tears of joy.
Ah, yes, the Golden Mouse! I thought that was her. I just couldn’t remember her name!
In panel one, Jules pushing his little arms up as Agatha unscrews the jar lid, is super cute!
Puck patting Natasha on the back. Their relationship has come so far since the day the robber gang mouse-napped Buzzy!
Pause! Rewind! Get the other mice and the other cats in here! Everyone should we seeing this!
Heroes do hit heavy
I have the feeling Cat and Mouse are about to unite (and incur Gent’s disgust…)
Is that a gi that Agatha is wearing?
¡Arriba Arriba andale andale Arriba Arriba!
Nopes. Nopes. Nopes. Mice is not cool (except for Speedy Gonzales, that is). Them mice is such a destructive pests and harbingers of the plague. That’s why peoples has dometicates the cats in the first place.
Agatha, I would suggest reducing your dietary intake of carotene. It seems to be affecting your fur.
Tough to open a lid you’re sitting on by pulling it up. She’ll have better luck knocking the jar over entirely, if Jules is as fast as he claims he is!
“(Don’t) siddown, siddown, siddown, siddown, siddown, you’re rocking the…jar!”
Rock the jar, don’t kick the jar over……. (Sorry Hughes Corporation, Rock the Boat)
I love how the arc is bringing in the yearly return of the immortal July Bug Jules, a very young Baba Mouse, Clover the Scribe, The Golden Mouse Agatha, Princess Mags (and her Dad) as well one of my favorites: Angus, probably the last cat that Winifred personally cared for at the big pink house. Too bad the days of July are getting short in number, almost time for Jules to go on his way….. Awesome arc!
She’s the muroid on steroids! The peak of squeak!
I’m a blubbering mess now. I’ve been pretty emotional missing my mom lately. I go through spurts where something sets me off. This story line isn’t helping. Go Agatha!
Pull, Agatha, pull!
This just gets better and better!
Past glory, revisited.
Agatha looks like she’s having a bit of a problem with physics. Oh nevermind , who needs physics here anyway. :)
Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
The Nile Branch Library
Serfig-Aro: Welcome, class! And thank you for coming out for trumpet lessons.
Kitten Antef: Why are we meeting so far from the Library?
Serfig-Aro: That will become clear in a minute. Now, everyone grab your trumpet and make a BLAT.
Serfig-Aro: Very good. That is why we’re way out here. But stay with me, and we’ll be making music in no time. And remember to practice!
physics question: can you unscrew a lid you’re standing on?I’m thinking “no”.
Natasha was ready for her closeup!
Uh, Georgia? For the benefit of those of us with a propensity for quickly scanning on the first read-through … next time you might want to leave a little more space between “heroes” and “hit.” Just saying. :-)
OT: had my seven-week followup with the surgeon yesterday. I had two infected sutures under the skin. They were removed, but it was not an especially pleasant experience. Overall, though, he is happy with my current progress, although race training is definitely still off the table, probably until after the first of the year.
Seeing Natasha getting all verklempt to witness Agatha in action, kind of reminds me of how I felt, as a young child, seeing “Abraham Lincoln” in Star Trek’s “The Savage Curtain.”
Could this actually be a Kai Lung reference?
For those who don’t know the Kai Lung stories of Ernest Bramah, Kai Lung is an itinerant storyteller. He falls in love with the maiden Hwa Mei, who is also known as “the Golden Mouse”.
Maybe a bit too obscure these days, could be coincidence.
I really like how you focused on Agatha in panel 1, it adds a lot of depth.
Careful Agatha. Don’t throw your back out.
“Heroes hit heavy”
Okay, I may have to steal that line. :-)
Cue the recap of The Legend Of The Golden Mouse
Agatha is trying to pull the lid off (while standing on it!) Shouldn’t she be unscrewing it instead?
And because this may have gotten lost in the rebuttals to Gent’s comment.I nominate Frederick by Leo Lionni as the coolest mouse of all.
I love how Mouse and Clover are out of focus in the first frame.
Beatrix is wise beyond her years.
anyone have theories on how old the July bug is?
In the news this week, in Australia, where all the garbage bin lids are the same, some genius cockatoo has figured out how to open them. In an unprecedented example of social learning, most of the cockatoos in Australia now know how to open garbage bins to look for food. They have even come up with variations on the original technique. Even cockatoos have heroes.
I just had a flashback to the book Watership Down.
The poor thing needs tissues.
Natasha is gonna be pestering Jules for info now. Might not be seeing Jules for a while.
Yeah! I was right! It is the Golden Mouse!
Agatha is a true hero.
I got so involved in the past story, I just noticed that the present-day crew are in their jammies. I went back to July 5 where Tommy says they got into their cozies. [Shakes head in rueful disbelief at own not noticing.]
Aww, the last panel gave me unexpected feels!
Oh wow, I’m going back through this month’s comics and only now notice that in the first panel, Mouse and the little guinea pig are just out of focus because The Golden Mouse and Jules are the focus.
