Going home to shower! Oh yes! When I came back from the “survival” part of survival training (think very hungry camping for a week or two), the first thing I want to do was eat. (They marched us back to the chow hall for a quick lunch, (by ourselves, because no one wanted to be around us) then I ordered pizza delivery because dinner wasn’t coming soon enough). While the pizza was on the way, I went in the shower for about thirty minutes, washing over and over, trying to feel clean again.
I guess it’s different when you’re a kid. We had a timeshare in a houseboat when I was younger. It had a full bathroom, but I only remember showering maybe 5 times in the dozen or so times we had it.
Our first golden boy, Spock, loved car rides, hiking with us and camping. No leash needed, he never went far away even at night. One time at a lake we carried him out to a small spit of sand that was showing. We put him down and sat there with him for a bit and me and Carmela waded out a ways without him and when looking back, there he was swimming for us like we were leaving him behind. We turned around to get him and when we met, he climbed up my torso and sat on my head as If to say “What were you thinking?” He loved the outdoor camping. One trip in the evening he found a copper head and it was coiled up. Carmela scooped Spock up and I grabbed the axe, swoosh, one slice, head cut off. We were all fortunate. When we hiked and we got too far ahead, we would hear him meow and we would stop for a break so he could explore a bit. He was a great cat!
I was LUMBERing through my own ignorance, didn’t know JACK, what to contribute. But now I’m BACON track. Apropos: you call it “bacon” now – I’ll call it “burp!” in 5 minutes!
My fave part of this strip is the incredibly detailed plaids! I notice that Goldie has styled her flannel shirt with unexpected purple pants and a matching cap.
The gang look like a grunge band from the early ’90s with the flannel plaids, it suits them, perhaps they can request a Nirvana or Pearl Jam song from Destry Hearth!
Anyhow, Puck has the right idea about bacon! An excellent choice for part of a weekend breakfast or brunch, unfortunately with a health conscious wife and vegan daughter it is doubtful that is on my menu today unless we go out to eat…..
Thanks, Georgia, for the up-to-date and perfectly revamped version of the “Ma’am? Bacon?” strip from some time long ago… I think of it often when our Biscuit comes around asking about the chicken he smells.
Every panel is a treasure! From Burt’s banner, to Puck’s triumphant cry “Bacon”! And the last panel is adorable…all those expectation faces and the tiny lumberjack declaration from—who else but Lupin.

And Here it is: Monty Python’s The Lumberjack Song
(Chorus) I’m a kitty cat and I’m OK,
I run all night and I nap all day (or vice versa)
Puck: I watch the stove, I guard the plate,
I take care of the house
In mornings I eat breakfast,
With my friend Buzzy Mouse!
(Chorus)
Elvis: I take my mic, I tell the news,
I keep us all informed,
I maintain my dignity
Except when I’m alarmed!
(Chorus)
Goldie: I watch and observe what’s going on,
Bacon from stove to plate,
Wherever there’s a mystery,
I go investigate!
(Chours)
Lupin: I run around, I go and climb,
I do that all the time,
I really am a good boy,
’Tho sometimes I might crime!
All: We’re all kitty cats and we’re OK
We keep you entertained each day!

But the real question is: Where’s Lupin’s Tiny Hat? He’s the lover of all tiny hats, so why’s he the only one without one? It makes no sense! :)
