Look at how the Scandinavians have handled sex ed for an object lesson in how it should be done. American puritanism is a stupid idea in this day and age.
This is moronic. God forbid a teacher should be able to discuss why one student has two moms, or two dads, or only one parent, or help a student with questions of sexual identity. Most studies show a student will trust a teacher over a parent in situations like this. Teachers are one of the most profound guiders in a child’s life. Hamstringing them like this is irresponsible: exactly what I’ve come to expect from the GOP and American conservatives.
Teaching children to understand and respect themselves, their bodies, and their differences goes against everything christians have spent so much time and effort instilling the hate, bigotry, and racism of their religion into those young minds. Self-loathing is the most important thing christians teach their children, and want to make sure your children are as intellectually and morally defective as they are.
Parents are reluctant to teach their children about the birds and the bees and RW lawmakers want to make sure they don’t learn about it in schools either. Now they definitely don’t start teaching it about in elementary schools but by middle school and they’re reaching puberty that is the time to start. Without this knowledge students don’t know how to avoid STD’s and unplanned pregnancies
No one is, or has ever , advocated teaching young (first, second, third grade) children about gender identity. Just more smoke and mirrors to get the followers of outrage porn hot and bothered!
Mr. Gorrell, many of these liberal posters haven’t heard about the incident, several months ago, where a parent tried to read from her child’s school book, and was removed from the school board meeting because the content was too gtaphic. I don’t know how how something too graphic for adults at a school board meeting can be taught to children. Either way, your cartoon is a couple of months behind the times.
One of banned books in Florida (at least in some districts) is “And Tango Makes Three.” A book about 2 male penguins, that coupled together and started to raise a chick. Nothing overtly sexual about. Republicans will always find the most graphic examples they can find, that are not even being used in grade school.
I have no problem with not teaching certain stuff to third grade and below. What I have a problem with is the vaguely worded second part of the law, which says nothing age-inappropriate can be taught. Who defines that? Does that mean that if high school students are debating current events and one of the topics is LGBTQ+ issues and it makes someone uncomfortable, the teacher can be sued? Pretty soon no topics will be covered for fear of lawsuits. And then students become woefully unprepared to enter adult life with the ability to engage in topics they disagree with or are uncomfortable with, and they can’t even adequately defend their own side, as they haven’t examined the issue thoroughly.
As a former teacher, I call BS. I never saw “sexuality” discussed, much less taught, in elementary school. this is nothing more than manufactured rage to stir up the MAGA base.

Good, we can’t have children knowing more about sex than their parents do.

For good christian conservatives, sex education will only be taught at home, in the family room as tradition demands.
