The orange one did it far too late and loosely to do any good. Oh, and so is the other one. The real difference is that the orange one used hateful rhetoric and the other one doesn’t.
Only, Trump didn’t ban travel from China. He only banned direct travel from China. Also, completely ignored that Europe by that point was a hot spot for Covid, which should also have been banned.
All I can hope is the Antivaxxers don’t cause a new variant that keeps me from making a trip next year.
Velveeta Vortemort tried to ban travel based on religion as well. To be fair, Evanbanicals should have been denied their “missionary” access to others nations. They made a huge mess in Uganda where being LGBTQ usually means a death penalty.
Trump banned travel from China (too late, mind you) and ignored travel from Europe where most of the cases on the east coast occurred. Trump ignored guidance from the experts on where the virus was spreading. He was pushing his China virus blame theory which IS xenophobic and racist.
Biden is listening to experts and following established practice for restricting travel from countries where the new variant is coming from. He’s not pushing an agenda.
Banning travel is absolutely fine, but only when double standard Marxist Disciple Democrats say that it is absolutely fine when Puppet Biden enforces restrictions on travel.
Ooooo, good one. Now remind us of when your president told the nation about Covid, “we’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away.” That was 778,000 deaths ago.
Travel bans are a waste of time when negative tests and vaccinations are the norm. They both want to be seen to be doing something. At least Biden isn’t calling it the “South Africa variant” as Trump would be.
yes they both made travel restrictions, no there is no hypocrisy. This would be an absolutely wonderful learning opportunity for you to figure out why one approach was racist, and the other approach wasn’t. Please learn.
Biden is issuing a temporary ban to the US from South Africa, Botswana and other neighboring countries. Meanwhile Europe is issuing travel bans from these countries (not surprising when you consider Europe is the only part of the world where Covid deaths are rising as opposed to either falling or holding steady). While in Southern Africa, doctors are saying that most of those who have gotten this variant have mild symptoms, have not lost their sense of smell or taste, and that hospitals aren’t being overwhelmed in those countries. It will take a few weeks for the World Health Organization (WHO) to give a clearer picture of this particular variant and how concerned we should be. As for those concerned about the vaccine’s effectiveness, most of those in Southern Africa are completely unvaccinated. Plus, Pfizer, Moderna, etc. are already hard at work to update their vaccines for this variant. For the record, South Africa thinks the US and Europe are overreacting with travel bans. But, I personally think any effort to stem the variant’s entry is welcome. In the meantime, I humbly ask that we all avoid the “panic porn” coverage about this variant and hope that in a few weeks WHO will give us a more reassuring picture.
*Concretionist*—yes, and it was a ban on travel from China (home of the “Chinese Virus”, only so called by Trumpy and his ditto-heads) but only for Chinese nationals. Several thousand Americans who were in China at the time were welcomed home. The idea that anything at all that The Great Orange One did to combat Covid could be favorably compared to the Biden regime is beyond ludicrous. But I suppose that’s just par for the course for Publican “cancel culture”.
The question isn’t between racist and xenophobic…or fine. It is really whether it is the right thing to do to slow disease spread. Trump supported a lot of bigoted and xenophobic policies to make a lot of his supporters happy. So the flight ban may have been xenophobic to a extent because satisfying people who trended that way were important to his political career, but in the end it doesn’t really matter. It is a strategy used by governments all around the world to slow disease spread. Is it effective? Or is it a waste a time that just placates the fear of some people in the short term?
Travel bans only work temporarily, if they work at all.
The real difference between them is that the guy on the left encouraged citizens not to take the threat seriously, while the guy on the right encouraged citizens to act responsibly.
There is a difference between suspending travel and Trump constantly referring to Covid as the Chinavirus to distract from his complete failure to respond to the pandemic. Also Trump’s only move was a travel ban, and whatever that did to help, it was immediately undone by right wing media’s war on masks and Covid safety protocol.

Right. Trump banned travel from Islamic states, Biden banned travel from South African states. You decide which President banned the right folks.
