Reading a Bob Gorrell comic: Racism in, racism out.
Anything which doesn’t say that his people are better than everyone else is just garbage to Li’l Bobby.
By all means hide the truth about our racist past. What people don’t know won’t come back to haunt you.
And Gorrell is being a perfect example of that!
For Gorrell and his ilk, history starts at 1950.
Bob Gorell believes the Civil War was about states’ rights, not slavery. He also calls it the War of Northern Aggression even if the South attacked Fort Sumter first.
Goofy Gorrell doesn’t believe in actual history, only the crap that comes from Fox Propaganda. He’s so out of touch his banner still hasn’t gotten past the 2016 election.
So says the racist white guy that doesn’t want to confront his past.
Yes, God forbid our children learn the true history of the United States and its duplicity.
Stiglich-level racism. Hey, Gorrell, why don’t you join your buddy Stiglich in banishment?
Gorrell, relax boy.
I teach 8th grade social studies. That means US history, up through Reconstruction.
All those content companies know we have Covid $$$ available and are begging us to spend it on them. My email inbox is choked with offers.
None from 1619. Nothing. Nada. Zip.
As usual you’re making a huge stink over nothing. All you are doing is drawing attention to that which you fear.
A hundred years ago Southern historians had seized control of the narrative. Slavery was beneficial, Reconstruction was tyrannical, the KKK were heroes, and the Lost Cause fluttered the hearts of the proud sons and daughters of the Confederacy. Gorrell joins those who want to make history like that again.
Gorrel’s ilk are still teaching “The Birth of A Nation”
That’s exactly what this is…garbage! Even African Americas don’t want this….
Opponents of Critical Race Theory says it’s just designed to make White people feel bad. American Indians were brought to the brink of extinction. Blacks were enslaved for centuries. Mexicans were relocated. Japanese were placed in concentration camps, but it’s White people who feel bad?
None of these 1619 critics ever tell us when systemic racism ended in the US. They just tell us it doesn’t exist, and hope we ignore the fact that it surely did.
If by garbage you mean the whitewashed BS we’ve been feeding our children for the last 100 years I agree. Junior is old enough to know the truth.
A guy in my state posted a cartoon online in the comment section of his town’s website (Shrewsbury, MA) that poked fun at critical race theory. The cartoon is by an African American, by the way. The ‘toon and the posters comments were not in violation of the sites rules and confirmed so by the site. A wokester coward took a screen shot and sent it anonymously to the guy’s employer. The left-leaning employer fired the guy. This is one of the fascist tactics of some of those on the left – cancel those who disagree with your orthodoxy. It’s disgusting. I don’t personally know the guy who was fired but I do know who he is. He’s a friend of a friend who used to work with him. I also know where he worked. The guy was an IT manager. He has a wife and kids. He’s not a racist, doesn’t deny that racism exists, doesn’t defend the losing side of the American Civil War, etc. His ex-employer apparently feared blowback from the woke activists if they employed a person who publicly disagreed with critical race theory. They will likely be sued for wrongful termination but would rather deal with that than deal with the fascist bullies who will come after them. There are people who think the guy deserves to be fired for not buying into CRT. Some of them are reading this comment.
Know the truth and it shall set you free
Kicking and screaming will the cave people be dragged into enlightenment.
PS: 01/06 – Never forget.
an actual new drawing…
Schools should be teaching the 1619 project and critical race theory(shown here as clean sheets of paper), but instead are instead teaching the garbage fantasy that America was not and is not a racist country.
I see the real racists want affirmation that their hates will be taught in our schools.
Recycling garbage is only good if you want compost . . . but it doesn’t help grow a better functioning brain if it’s got too much manure. Put it on Texas textbooks and watch what comes up as candidates to represent you in your State. . . . /S
The name of Gorrell’s game is hate.
Propaganda comes in many guises.. controlling history is clasic.
Living proof that ‘just because you have an opinion does NOT mean you should express it publicly!’
[ This puts Gorrell “in the Stiglich category!” ]
Accurate teaching of history is needed to grow as a society. Relying on inaccurate information leads to inaccurate conclusions. For instance, ancient Egypt has no history of being a slave state.
(Repost from a comment on another thread.) Critical Race Theory and 1619 Project, while not perfect are far closer to the historical truth regarding slavery and race in this country than what is currently taught in most high school and college history courses. This cartoonist needs to take a history class, once in a while, or read a history book. He might learn something. He would have fit right in with the vast majority of the students who take my Slavery and the American Revolution course. They usually come out of the class surprised that the Revolution in the Southern colonies was so intimately connected to the onset of the American Revolution, especially the confronted with the reams of evidence illustrating that they left the British Empire primarily because they were afraid that Parliament, in the wake of the Somerset Decision, was about to approve the abolition of slavery throughout the empire. The vaunted republican ideology that everybody touts was nothing more than a compromise between democracy and slavery that allowed southern slave owners, because they were a minority, to keep their slaves. The vaunted American Dream that you and every other person ignorant of the past, was originally devised by white slaveholders so that nonslaveholding whites and poor whites would support and perpetuate the institution instead of upending a system where they literally had no chance of actually improving their lot in life. With the demise of slavery the capitalists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century appropriated the idea of the American Dream to themselves and adapted the idea of being able to make something of themselves from nothing to maintain and perpetuate the status quo and their own standing in society. In this way, poor people, believing that they could make something of themselves would be more willing to support the system that to alter it or abolish to altogether.
Gorrell should know all about garbage. It’s what his strip is.
I taught an upper level World History class before I retired. I received some examples of the NYTimes 1619 project. I found some good things in it and some that could maybe stimulate some debate on how historians use sources. As I did not teach a class related to the topic, I passed almost all of the material on to students who expressed an interest in it. That was 2 years ago; I suspect that the continual “fear” of this is another GOP cultural nothing burger. In History, debate, reexamining of sources, etc. is an essential part of the curriculum.
I’ll say it again: And when I see a Nazi flag, I think “Oktoberfest!”
Republican racists are against truth and reality.
Illustration depicts what HAS BEEN happening. 1619 will be the fresh water flushing out the garbage.
Better to pump their heads full of racism and hate, make them good #GQP members.
Please, if you want to talk about “Garbage In, Garbage Out”, let’s take a close look at 30+ years of right wing talk/hate media. My stepdad used to be a smart guy. After decades of watching and listening to that, letting Rush and the rest take a dump in his skull everyday for hours he’s just a mass of rage and alternate reality. #SAD
Gorrell fails to show the poor kid’s MAGAt parents holding that trash can…
The reason so many people object to 1619 and Critical Race Theory is their treatment of the present day.
Teaching the history of slavery in North America is not a problem. Teaching children that they own some of the responsibility for that evil is grotesque and harmful.
Apparently Gorrell has a bit of a problem with teaching real history.
The other awful thing about this cartoon is that the child here is a Black kid. So what’s the message, really. Don’t give our Black folks any ideas?
OK, MontanaBlll is involved so no reason to waste my time reading any of this.
