Biographic Steve McGarry Chris Hemsworth One of three brothers who have carved out acting careers, Chris Hemsworth was born in Melbourne, Australia, on August 11, 1983. The family spent time living in the outback, where cattle stations, buffalo and crocodiles were the norm, before moving to a small island off the Melbourne coast. Following small roles on a number of Aussie TV shows, Chris landed a starring role on the popular soap opera "Home and Away" in 2004. He relocated to Sydney for the show and spent the next three years playing lifeguard Kim Hyde. However, his sights were set movies, and six weeks after moving to Los Angeles, Chris landed a prominent role in "Cash." By the time the film was released in 2010, he had played George Kirk in "Star Trek" and appeared in the thriller "A Perfect Getaway." His major breakthrough came with the lead in the 2011 box-office hit "Thor." he packed an extra 20 pounds of muscle to play the Norse god superhero, a role he reprised the following year in "The Avengers." 2012 also saw him star in "Snow White and the Huntsman" and "Red Dawn." Having earned praise for his portrayal of Formula One driver James Hunt in Ron Howard's "Rush," Hemsworth returns to the Marvel Universe for "Thor: the Dark World."
