Big Nate and the Big Event – Part 5

We arrived to Coco’s house. Our friend showed us the way to her room. We all sat on the floor.

“So, about who should be our strip?” I asked.

“Maybe about some superheroes?” Francis offered.

“Ok. How many of them?”, Coco asked.

“Not four. It would be like we’re ripping off Justice League”, Teddy noticed.

“How about three of them?”

“Okay”.

“Now, let’s think of the leader”, Francis said.

“I got one. His name’s Steve and he’s an ordinary teen during the day. But when the sun goes down, he become a super – strong man”, I said.

“What about his qualities?”

“He’s often lightsome and clueless, but he’s a good man”.

“Okay, I imagined him, and drew him”, Coco announced and showed her drawing.

Steve was a blond with a combover. He had lots of muscles. He wore a red suit and light blue cape and shoes. The drawing was pretty cool.

I remember in elementary school we had this recurring joke where we made a “questionable” twist on the classic nursery rhyme. Instead of round and round, we went: The wheels on the bus go- BOOM BOOM BOOM! Along with “explosion and car crash” sounds that we made with our lips right after.

BIG NATE BECOMES A SUPERHERO: PART 5 (FORMERLY NEWFOUND ABILITIES)

A couple days had passed since Nate saved a woman from getting her car hijacked by a man wearing black attire. He and his dad, Marty, are currently driving to Washington state to meet Mom (aka Elite Lady), whom Nate inherited his superpowers from. They have just arrived at Washington, but still have a few more miles to go until they reach her house.

Marty: Me too. I wonder what her reaction would be when she sees us.

Nate: Oh, she is going to be excited all right!

Marty: Yeah… excited. Well, I mean, it has been a long time since she filed for divorce.

Marty takes a deep sigh. There is then a silence between the two.

Nate: Divorce? She divorced you?

Marty: Yup… one of the worst things a father like me could ever face.

Nate: Hmm… my mom… why did, uh… she divorce you?

Marty takes another deep sigh.

Marty: You… you really want to know?

Nate: I guess… I mean, we are visiting her after all.

Marty: Okay then… so, one day, your mom got home after rescuing a child who was trapped in a well. She took off her superhero suit and changed into normal clothes, like she would normally do after her superhero business. She walked down the stairs and entered the living room, where she saw me eating chips watching TV. I was supposed to help her out with you and Ellen, do the laundry, vacuum the place up, and other stuff too. But, instead of that, I spent my whole day as a couch potato. We eventually got into a huge argument that resulted in her filing for divorce.
