An Ultra Nate comic? Sweet! And about COVID-19?! It exists in the Big Nate universe!! I wonder if that means summer vacation would come a little early this year for Nate.. Also do you know there’s really a female singer named Ultra Naté? I don’t know if Mr. Peirce found out Ultra Naté and named Nate’s superhero alter-ego after her, or if it’s just a crazy coincidence. My comic character Ned Dickens also has a superhero alter-ego who’s named Mighty Ned, purposely inspired by the Disney XD series Mighty Med.

I wonder what tomorrow’s strip will be like, now that COVID-19 is in Nate’s world.

Wow, not bad, addressing COVID

Those healthy young people who believe that the Trump plague is no match for their immune system need to remember several things.

1. You are infecting people when you have no symptoms at all. This includes your family and people who actually matter to other people even if they don’t to you.

2. When you overestimate your immune system, or underestimate the plague, you wind up competing for a respirator and other materials needed by those who developed the disease because they were essential workers.

3. You are endangering the medical workers who have to care for you and the people that you infect. They are already risking their lives. What right have you to add to their jeopardy because you need a haircut?

4. Many viruses remain within the cells of your body. We don’t know that this is one of them, but it’s not unlikely. They wait there until your body’s immune system is no longer strong enough to keep them in check. That could happen when you are older, or in the car wreck you have next week. Then, with their new assistance, they come back in full force.

My son is an RN. He treats Trump plague patients, and has watched them suffer greatly, then often die. He has assured me that there is no possibility of taking this thing too seriously. If you think a mask is a problem, you are not thinking this thing through clearly.

Guys, this was a challenge from the National Cartoonists thingy. It must include a microscope for the scientists, a steering wheel, which I’m guessing is for truck drivers, a mask, apples for idk, a shopping cart for grocery workers, and a fork for I’m guessing restaurant owners. It’s in Foxtrot, and other strips. Sadly, it’s not in Garfield :(

A bunch of cartoonists are doing it today as part of a Thank You event for the frontline workers. So don’t get excited, I’m pretty sure the virus and the quarantine won’t be referenced in the mainline strips.

I think it was about time for a strip like this would appear.

All six symbols and almost funny.

I just wanted to talk about this comic and maybe get some opinions once I finish. For one, many people think this comic is unfunny. It not exactly meant to be funny. It is supposed to show that Coronavirus is a real, everyday thing. Adding on, Moon_Man posted a comment with a link(https://www.gocomics.com/the-born-loser/2020/06/07), which I think makes a ton of sense. Also, real documents can be hard to understand or “take in” for some people. Expressing this in comic form is an excellent way to have some people understand this. Continuing, something in the last panel really stood out to me. It says that they were saved by an essential worker. We would be in extreme trouble if we didn’t have any people to still keep are building open and safe. Take some time to thank people like that who you know.I hope you guys to the time to read this. I would be really interested in knowing what you guys think about this. This is just my opinion and remember that you can think whatever you want. Don’t let anyone change that. Stay safe everyone, we will all be out of this soon!

Sorry I wasn’t here to greet everyone this morning, but good afternoon readers! I really like how Mr. Peirce handled this. I think it would be great for younger kids to read. I was wondering how many comics would address this Covid-19 issue. So far I’ve seen FoxTrot, Sarah’s Scribbles, and The Awkward Yeti do strips on this current global pandemic, and this is my favorite so far! Totally earns my Like : )

As an essential worker (ER and teaching) for both jobs, I would like to thank all the cartoonists who took part in the National Cartoonists Society challenge to use the symbols in their comics today (well, yesterday, since I’m writing this on Monday). What makes Big Nate stand out is that Lincoln Peirce wrote a little fantasy/heroic story about it. Well done, sir and thank you! (idk if he reads these comments, but I hope so because I really like Big Nate and have several of the books).

Despite all the controversy this comic had, I didn’t really think it was that bad. It spread a good lesson to kids! And there’s no punchline, meaning it’s not really a comic to laugh at, but rather a comic to spread awareness and nothing else. Seems like it’s good at achieving that purpose.

LOL, COVID went on for over a year and a half after this. It’s fun to pinpoint moments when we thought it was over but it started up again.
