mix letters, cases, numbers, and “special symbols” and it becomes a high quality password. Just don’t keep using the same one, if someone somehow gets it you’re sunk!

Allowing uppercase, lowercase, numbers and punctuation in passwords is good because it expands the number of possibilities enormously. Requiring them all to be used, however, is bad because it limits the set of permitted passwords to a (comparatively) small subset of them.

Simple way to create a strong password. Write out a sentence having 12 or more words. Use the first letter of each word to create the password. In cases in which you can use numbers and special symbols, simply substitute those numbers or symbols for certain of the first letters. For example: “Here is my new password which I use to log into my bank account” can easily be translated into

    " H1mnPWw!U2limB@ ".

Just remember the sentence, or even write it down, but not as modified. This password is considered very strong because there are no patterns in it, no personal information, and no dictionary words.
