… And it’s great for swatting flies….
Morello? Is he that kid who never lies or his nose will grow?
Until he makes that RACKET outside your cave at 3AM while you’re trying to sleep.
THEN, he’s the BIGGEST a$$hat in town.
That’s a name I haven’t heard for years. At one point he was considered the number one drummer in the world; which of course is totally subjective. This debate became quite heated with the Buddy Rich fans.
Joe switched from traditional grip to match grip in the middle of Take Five for his solo. For millions of student drummers, that was a big deal.
Joe Morello is my favorite drummer of all time. He’s from my home state and I know a couple of old-timers who knew him. Apparently he was a really good guy on top of being a great musician. I say musician rather than drummer because he started out as a violinist and was so good he was invited to solo for the Boston Symphony Orchestra at age 9 or 10.
Taking nothing away from Joe Morello – I’m a big fan of the Dave Brubeck Quartet – but the drumming on this version of “Take 5” is worth a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLF46JKkCNg
Joe Morello, drummer with Dave Brubeck. Started out as a classical violinist. Great musician, he could play a great press roll with one hand and use the free hand to do a multiplicity of other things. I played drums for years and could not begin to do that.
