And turn up as a ghost afterwards to check if they still need you.
Freedom 85, Aunty. Freedom 85.
Unfortunately a lot of jobs take away your ability to work long before they take away your life.
There isn’t a ghost of a chance that you would ever do that, Aunty!
You’ll probably be late for it.
I don’t fish and I don’t golf so there is no sense to me retiring.
The truth is I am not sure I know how to retire.
Some people just can’t let go. . .
When I was 55 I couldn’t imagine retiring. When I was 60 I started making plans for early retirement. I always covered for others and only used vacation days when I was forced to. My last months I started using up the time that wouldn’t be paid I left. And amazingly everything managed to get done without me. And I discovered there was a world outside of work. Haven’t left my little town in years and there are still things right here free and cheap and fun.
Hang in there for just a few minutes longer and you can eat some of the food they prepared for the wake…
I am not gonna take death lying down! I am gonna shuffle off my mortal coil and wrap it around the reapers neck and throw him to the river and beat him with the Styx! Had too much coffee methinks……
I heard about a guy that died in his cubicle about a week before they figured out he had passed.
Reading gocomics is my retirement activity.
I did not wish to retire, they “retired” me at 64. Ageism is alive, well and thriving in the ol’ USA.
I am right there with you on that one Aunty…
I actually worked with a woman who died at her Desk.
She had Terminal Cancer and had not told Anyone except the ones who handled her Health Insurance claims. And They could be Fired or even Jailed if they leaked it.
One of the people she worked with thought she’d fallen asleep and tried to wake her up.
Perhaps you’ve heard this one before: “the cemeteries are full of indispensable men (and women).”
My mother was still working when she was 70. Then the cancer and after going through the agony she found there was more cancer an just refused any more help and died in hospice in just 2 months. Auntie if you can work and drop dead at lunch time it will be swift.
