Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for October 08, 1994
Transcript:
Janis has just stepped into the house. She plays the answering machine. There is a message from her mother, "This is your mother..." Janis's mother continues, "You know I hate talking to these things.." Her mom goes on, "You wouldn't need it if you stayed home more.." Janis walks off as her mother continues to nag, "I guess it's better than nothing in case of emergency.. In my day.."
My mom, after the divorce, remained friendly with dad’s brother. When she died, it took a while to get the news to him; dad said, “He’s so old-fashioned, he doesn’t even have an answering machine.” At age 88 I guess he’s allowed.
