Some people seem to care about “our” veterans only on Veterans Day and Memorial Day!! The rest of the year – not so much!! Notice that I did write “some” and not all!!
There was a time when everyone shared in the sacrifice it took in staying free. Not anymore. Easier to say “Thank you for your service” than to actually serve.
Maybe because invading and occupying other folks’ countries doesn’t really serve America OR promote freedom—unless perhaps you define freedom in the ancient way, as having a legally inferior class or two below you to push around.
90% of the conflicts that veterans were involved in did not actually threaten American freedom. The propaganda at the time of each conflict tried to convince the public that the war was needed “for freedom”… but really, it was typically other countries’ wars that America decided to get involved in for political reasons.
Not that veterans don’t deserve respect. They put their lives on the line for a cause. I just have a problem with the higher-ups who haven’t been completely honest about why that cause was important.
My only problem is calling everyone in uniform a hero. Most never see combat or even go to a combat zone. Calling anyone in uniform a hero cheapens the word for the real heroes who save a life or do something over and above the call of duty on the battlefield.

The infrastructure bill that just passed omitted the Veteran’s Hospitals updates and care.
They always seem to be forgotten when it comes to their care…….shameful!
Lousy if you ask me!

One can point out shortcomings but in fact the US treats veterans better than any nation in history.

Wait’ll you see the smarmy humanistic treacle some of the MAGA cultist artist-prostitutes come up with on Christmas. Oh, and have your insulin handy.
Then it’s back to the business-as-usual right-wing propaganda the very next day.

Save the term for real heroes.

Goodwyn will fight like hell to keep those sacred veterans from getting any more entitlements.
Because, you know, The Deficit.
.
Veterans’ benefits belong in all defense spending bills.

Because many other people also contribute to our freedom besides the military. Then there are Republicans….
