We have a friend who is on Social Services, and she would sometimes not turn on the water heater to save money. Hubby and I used to have a time-share and every summer I would take two kids from church to spend a week in Williamsburg. We’d get annual passes, so we could get two trips out of the deal. The first time I took her two with me, the daughter was thrilled to bits to be able to take a long hot shower. I nearly wept for her.

Sounds like my house, when one appliance goes kaput, then immediately another one and another one and another one, sometimes I swear Household items are in cahoots with one another.

Even as a comic strip, this is getting dire. I mean, you’ve got to write your way out of this one, if you’re a cartoonist, don’t you? You’ve got to resolve it, right? Right?

when I was a lot younger (1940s), we had to heat water on the stove if we wanted a warm bath.
