I’ve had my old Computer for 10 + years and its given me the blue screen of death many times over.. It finally bit the dust last year and I had to bury it and go get a new one.. So far,so good. I’m keeping my fingers crossed just in case.

We still have two computers in our house. That doesn’t help when I can’t use my computer and get to my work program though!

Between my wife, three geek children and me, we have: eight(?) Macs, a minimum of three PCs (probably more), an Android tablet and an iPad, and three or four smart-ish phones. Plus my wife and I still have our slide rules from high school, and I own two abacuses. The two Mac LCIII models still work fine, but they’re a bit slow for modern software…

Tapping on the keyboard isn’t going to do it. I spent two full days this weekend reviving a laptop.

I had a desktop that while it didn’t die, it did go back to factory settings. I told people it had a nervous breakdown. Lost lots. Now I try to backup things on thumbdrive every once in awhile.

Only if the data was properly saved. I believe that whatever file Adam had been working on when the crash went down was NOT properly saved, and thus, probably at least partly lost.

Of course, there are failsafes in place that minimize the damage, so Adam may still have something to rebuild with, but that depends on just how “dead” is computer is at the moment, and if he can get it running again.

I have a PC (not a Mac) and I’ve never had it BSOD, or crash in any way, except for when a fan failed. Of course, I don’t run Windows on it, I use Linux.
