The Queen Has Left the Building • about 5 hours ago
Aretha Franklin, the legendary “Queen of Soul,” died this morning at her home in Detroit at the age of 76. Franklin began singing in her father’s church, where she honed her four-octave range, and went on record dozens of hits like "Respect," "Chain of Fools," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." Among her many accolades, Franklin was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Franklin retired from live performing in 2017, and had battled pancreatic cancer over the past few years. We wish her family peace and comfort while she’s on the Freeway of Love to the other side. Respect, Aretha.
