Really, you could not beat the Weekly World News. So good they made a joke out of it in MIB.

Broadsheets. These were handed out like playbills on the street with a pointed outlook on one or several issues of the day. But nothing like the near-instantaneous spread of online chin-wagging.

They had The National Enquirer. That has turned into Fox News, so look there.

Back in the 1960’s my dad was on the local schoolboard. He would get the various local papers and see how they reported on the issues. He would frequently wonder if they were even there. I’ve been present at minor things that made the paper. What happened and what was printed were wildly different. The news is all about making money and pushing an agenda or pushing an agenda and making money.

Most major networks of the 50’s & 60’s (CBS, ABC, & NBC) held the Vietnam body count secret. Body counts of Viet Cong greatly exaggerated and American greatly less than actual bodies coming home. Finally, Walter Cronkite let the world know that Viet Nam could not be won. As President Johnson stated. “That’s it. If I’ve lost Cronkite, I’ve lost middle America.”

Fox News was around for a little while before them. But I think they USED to report facts (before 2000 CE).
