Still on a land line, huh? Otherwise he’d need to use the other thumb.

A dial phone? Get with the times!
(ever notice how they say that your call cannot be completed as dialed, even though phones nb longer have dials?)

I like my land-line. It’s never dropped a call on me. When I can say the same for cell service I might switch, but today is NOT the day. I’m a luddite; I also don’t get the appeal of sending a two-minute text and waiting for a reply when you can accomplish so much more with an actual one-minute phone conversation.

I agree the texting is stupid for carrying on a conversation. But it IS useful for sending a simple message, and you do not want to be dragged into a long conversation. A message like, “I’M DIVORCING YOUR USELESS A$$!”

Texting also handy for notifying various relatives spread throughout the country that you are okay after a severe storm passed through

Not always. Cell towers can lose power too, or be so overloaded they won’t accept any more calls.

    Nostalgic isn’t it?
    Don’t see many payphones either.
Ever notice how software still uses a ‘diskette icon’ for ‘save file’?

After Hurricane Katrina, no cell phones were working, but the land line was! It was difficult to get thorugh, with so many people using it, but eventually you could. Cell phones did not work until you got about 150 miles out of the city. We were going to a relative’s house and could only call her to tell her we were on our way when we got close. So much for cell phones…

I have a cell for when I’m out of the house – insurance on the road, IF I’m not in a “dead zone.” I have a 10-foot coil on the land line, plus a 10-foot cord to the wall, and a 25-foot cord on the other phone. Like truecanadianliberal said, no “dead zones” in the house. And no wasted time looking at texts.
