Actually, in ancient times, slavery was one way to work off your debts …

In some ways, I think that returning to slavery might not be a bad idea. Mistreatment isn’t likely to happen any more, at least not without great scandal.

Option? When did that happen?

Isn’t that what a bank makes you with every(so few) loan or line of credit?

This is right on. With the way taxes and the economy are going, we’ll be lucky to be indentured and not just slaves to the state. And it doesn’t look like it’ll be an option. More like an offer we can’t refuse.

… slaves to the state ? More likely slaves to China or whoever owns your national debt.

Not so ancient. That was a viable choice here in Thailand until 1905. King Chulalongkorn abolished slavery partly because people were selling themselves into slavery to avoid paying taxes. Also, too, it was a very popular move, there were many abuses of slaves.

What’s wrong with you Ziggy? How dare you want to keep more of the money YOU worked for?

We already are, people. Between Federal taxes, FICA, Medicare, State taxes, and bank/credit loans. Not to mention County, ans school, sewer taxes. your actual disposable income is just about gone. Talk about the old Company Store system.

How do I find out who the U.S. has borrowed it’s money (and now has it’s/our loan debt to) from?
.
I’ve heard it’s China, but I’d like to know – truthfully.

We will all be indentured servants by the time Obama leaves office.
