At least this character (named Vincent) didn’t self-amputate his ear when as a failing, badly critiqued artist in his boyhood.

I bet the crone died miserable and alone…

This reminded me of Don McLean’s song, “Vincent.”

    Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer’s day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
    Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand what you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they did not know how
    Perhaps they’ll listen now

Bravo, Gavin, & Vincent!! ….. It is sad that Van Gogh died at age 37, probably of his own hand, after producing so many luminous, mystical, amazing pieces. How many more might he have produced, I wonder, had he had appropriate medication and a supportive community to help him stay on track with guidance, compassion and kindness. He is a genius that left us way too early, but he persevered tenaciously through his challenges. Safe journeys, RIP, inspiring genius.

This just reminded me of my daughter’s soul crushing elementary school teacher and now I have to remind myself that there is inexplicably no exception in the homicide laws for parental retribution and I need to be out of jail for her.

    Been there and experienced that.
Went to an art exhibit and there were works just like I use to do in elementary school.
I have never seen “art” I did not like.
Art to me covers anything created or imagined.
Its the expression of creation that makes us who we are in the world.
Some achieve instant fame….some never till after they are gone.

At school one or more people mutilated my work. Either drawing in them or spitting on them. Never found out. The unknown enemy is the most dangerous.

Who knows, with medication and counseling, he could have been another Norman Rockwell.
There was a line in Theo, a one-man play I saw starring Leonard Nimoy: “People say you paint too fast.”
    “No, they look too fast!”

I hope there is a heaven where he can see how loved, appreciated (and expensive) his work is now that he is dead. He’s surely entitled to an ironic laugh at the world.
