Or as my dear late father ued to say "when something doesn’t work out don’t say “I give up” say “right, well that didn’t work, so what’s plan B”"?

Not exactly pertinent, but I always remember the lyrics from “Carousel”:
    .
    “If I loved you,
Time and again I would try to say
All I’d want you to know.
    If I loved you,
Words wouldn’t come in an easy way
    Round in circles I’d go!
    Longin’ to tell you,
    But afraid and shy
I’d let my golden chances pass me by!
    Soon you’d leave me,
Off you would go in the mist of day,
    Never, never to know
    How I loved you
    If I loved you.”
    .
Corny as it sounds, remembering “I’d let my golden chances pass me by” helped me several times avoid doing exactly that in various situations.

Best thing that ever happened to me was getting laid off from the job I hated with a fiery passion. Of course, what haunts me today is whether I fully optimized the opportunities that followed that “disaster”.

I still find it unbelievable that Helen Keller was actually able to learn a language that she could not see, hear nor speak. She had no way to tie all of those things together which are necessary for communication. I think someone wrote all those things and put her name on them.

Run her fingers over a couples bumps on a paper, and she was able to learn that it represented a letter? And that letters create words? I call BS on all of it.

It’s a polite way of saying “we’re getting rid of your job, and so by extension we’re getting rid of you.”
    []
It’s usually used in situations where a company is at excess capacity, such as after a merger or in a time period of dramatically falling sales. However, in rare instances it’s used in lieu of actually telling someone that they’ve been fired.

Hellen Keller was an activist. She could speak after a fashion. Go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ch_H8pt9M8 to see a short film about it.

I think you mind is too small for the truth and too large for your fantasies.

In a Depression, as many of us are in, jobs are few and the pickings are poor. Low paying, temporary, steep criterion to even apply are all being used to keep people from trying to get a job. Even short term crappy ones.

Knock and the door will open.
If it does not…..find another door.
First part about bad news is the depression part.
One can come out of it and continue.
Just takes time….which is a luxury many do not have.
    So don’t wait too long.

So he should…take a vacation? Do volunteer work? Take senior enrichment courses? Obviously he should just plan on being one of the long-term unemployed. None of these “opportunities” pays the bills…
