He’s busted. But it looks like teach has a sense of humor after all.

It’s very mature when you are secure enough in yourself to laugh at yourself.

Thanks for the comments. I like the message ( or messages) that today’s strip communicates.cabrobst
mentions one of them in his above post. Also, this sequence seems more realistic to me, at least based
on my own school experiences, than the more predictable
outcome of the teacher getting angry , hurt or offended.
When I was just getting into cartooning around seventh or eighth grade, a kid in my homeroom asked me to draw
caricatures of our principal, vice principal and our homeroom teacher, who also was our science teacher.
Fast-forward three or four days later. The drawings, which
were not flattering, were found and taken to the school office. I was called in and all three of these people were
there! But, they were laughing!
The drawings were posted on the office bulletin board,
and now, almost 40 years later, i’m still not sure whether
to feel proud or just lucky.

Zack isn’t really busted because his teacher is laughing.
The teacher is either taking notes on playground behavior or she’s working on something like a puzzle and using a pencil.
When I was in the 9th Grade, I could have been busted by the Principal, Pat Johnson, when he saw me put a sign on the back of a friend in a math classroom.
The teacher had left the room which was at the end of the hall and while we weren’t really creating a disturbance or doing anything destructive, we could be heard because the doors to the room were open and the teacher had gone to the office for something.
Mr. Johnson didn’t even come in the room and that’s because the teacher was just behind him.
I didn’t know that he had seen us until I overheard him telling another teacher later about seeing me taping a sign on a friend’s back. And he said that was funny.
He was my Oklahoma History teacher and I made A grades in his class.

Teachers have a tough enough job when real problems occur, which they often do. But, it helps when they have the insight to know when kids are just being kids.
