Sure, no big deal. What’s getting tied up to a pole between friends, huh? Nothing to write home about!

How many pervos here would just love to see this scene animated?

I love how David Alvarez uses hot drawings to get away with the complete lack of story structure.

Yeah, I know. Most of the guys here are saying “there’s a story?”

I live in Connecticut. If I tie my wife to a pole, can I light the pyre with a torch thicker than my thumb?

    Regarding flintcrow’s post…

Well, I think Yenny has plenty of structure. Now, I don’t really think it is meant to exclusively have a story type structure in it though, at least not a major one…

The heart of this particular series is mostly dependent on whatever spontaneous and/or crazy events that currently happen in the present Yenny universe.

The initial plot line of the Yenny series given to us by Dave long ago, sets the series up to allow it to be filled with an endless amount of random events (each a small story within themselves), some sexy, some weird, some serious, some funny. That’s just how the Yenny series is. The randomness keeps things fresh and new with the sexy nature of the main character as icing on the cake.

So if it appears that it has a lack of story structure, that might not exactly be a bad thing as far as this strip is concerned. :)

    Only if you’re sure she’s a witch. Exodus 22:18.

Thanks fo the review, Fmiling. It’s good to see things from another point of view.

The truth of the matter is that I have to deal with two very very different markets. The spanish language one and the english market.

I’d love to make more detailed storylines but for the newspaper that runs Yenny that’s a killer. I have to wrap up stories in less than two weeks so I won’t get cancelled.

According to audience polls made through internet and fan mail, in Puerto Rico, Yenny is followed mostly by teenage girls and boys. An audience that HATES complicated or long storylines.
In here, Gocomics and US market, they love that. And Yenny is followed by a more mature audience. So I have to make a balance for both audiences.
Some storylines end abruptly, not because I want to, but because I start getting letters from bored teens who just want to read more Zacha-Yenny jokes or funny love storylines between Kelso and Yenny.

You might be saying “BAH! Screw those kids!”, but the truth is that the spanish market is the one who pay the bills. I’ve never-EVER got a seious proposal from any US publisher, agent or licensor. The day I get one, things will change dramatically.

I love European comics. Asterix or The Smurfs for example. They make their stories with so much detail and love. I’d really love to make full Yenny stories one day that could fill those story gaps that I’ve left over the years.

    Dave,

I think it’s amazing that you CAN balance between the Puerto Rican and US markets and still come up with a comic that’s as funny and original as this one. (and sexy….don’t forget sexy….). My only gripe with the comic, if you can call it a gripe, is that some of the ‘local sayings’ don’t translate all that well to English. But hey, we can’t have everything, right? If we did, where would we put it all?

Work on an independent Graphic Novel (as time and lawyers permit).

You can make the story as long and wide and deep as you like. I think you only need an outline to sell it to a publisher, then after it’s sold, you can fill in the details and the artwork.

Why not? There’s a gazillion Japanese Manga graphic novels! And yours can read left-to-right!

    Definitely Dave, you’re always welcome.

I just wish there was a better way to help you more in the U.S. market… You have a totally grand idea with Yenny and she deserves way more support. It’s a total shame that nobody can see the brilliance…

It’s just so good, so many people applaud it here in the U.S. and it STILL gets no real support from any agencies? That’s very upsetting…

UncaAlby brings up a good idea… an independent graphic novel would totally be a good idea…

xaenon: Thanks! Yeah, some things can’t be translated very well. For the Primera Hora strip I need to use a lot of local gags. Something that must be changed in the english translation. Hence the mother teresa/ Fortuño gag.
At first Yenny used to appear with a lot of caricatures of local actors. I had to stop doing that because it hurted the US market greately.

UncaAlby: I must definitely explore how to do that. It’s a great suggestion. Thanks.

fmilling: You help a lot with your deep reviews, man. Thanks for that.
Ironically, Yenny has been supported by the workers and rejected by the bosses. That happens very often. I’ve got proposals from readers who work inside big animation houses and when Yenny finally gets to the “Big Cheese” he goes: “What the hell is that? Is this porn?” and he gets back to look for more “kids-who-mock-their-parents-and-have-high-school-lives-concepts”

Keep up the good work, Dave. It’s greatly appreciated.

And, yes, folks, there’s a story. You have to read the words, though, while you’re enjoying the pictures.
