This comes close to Zen: The Board Game from “Ozy & Millie,” but that game has only one square and one piece.

Wait, this looks a lot like Gary Larson’s ‘Early Checkers’ comic.

Actually, this strip’s partially accurate. It started in India (Chaturanga) and spread to China (Xiangqi), Persia (Shatranj), and Myanmar (Makruk) . In Asia, it spread from China to Korea (Jiangki) and Siberia, and from Korea to Japan (Shogi), From Burma it spread to Indonesia. Finally, in Iran, the Muslims took control and spread it to the Muslim world. From the Muslims (Seen in this strip), who developed chess further. it spread to Spain, Italy, and Greece. From these countries it went to France and Portugal, from which it entered Britain and Germany from France, and the Philippines from Portugal. Finally, from Germany and Greece, chess entered Scandinavia (Germany), the Baltic states (from Germany), and European Russia (Greece).
