Working Daze follows the employees trapped at MacroMicroMedia. MMM is a wanna-be software giant, and it's staffed by geeks and clueless management types. VP Rita will try anything that might make a little money (though her ideas usually don't.) Underpaid Dana carries he place and keeps it running, while overpaid Ed sleeps all day. Roy and Kathy are made for each other, and everyman Jay never knows when to keep his opinions to himself. Writer/creator John Zakour is a humor/sci-fi writer, whose work includes the Zach Johnson detective novels. Artist Scott Roberts was a longtime contributor to Nickelodeon Magazine, and is the author of the fantasy novel The Troubling Stone. John and Scott met when they both worked on the Rugrats newspaper strip.

Jay Johnstone, the everyman programmer. Years with the company have made him a bit cynical, and not a bit richer.
Roy Hobbs, the engineer/repair guy. An expert with computers and machines, but he doesn’t have a clue how to deal with people.
Rita McMann, the evil manager. She thinks “rock bottom line” – unless it would mean her suffering.
Dana Powers, the overworked office manager. Don’t cross her – if you want to go home unharmed. She has strange powers.
Ed Kennedy, the lazy veteran programmer. He expends far more energy avoiding work than working.
Carolina Lopez, web guru. She’s smart and pretty and she knows it. Bilingual, and her second language isn’t Klingon.
Kathy Moon, Roy’s girlfriend, and fellow geek. Their relationship has its ones and its zeroes, but it’s a real love.
Sal Bandi, a weasel: he’s not good with people or machines, so of course he’s in customer service.
Andrew Norton, graphic designer, office cool guy. Good with people; not so good with computers.
Sue Smith, tech writer and office busybody. Jealous that others have more power or are more popular.
Medusa, the gorgon, who also works for MacroMicroMedia. She can turn you to stone with her glare. Don’t annoy her.
CJ Rapps, an intern. She was once the favorite niece of the CEO, but he’s since left, so she’s on her own.
Elena Belloff, a professional hypnotist hired by Rita to motivate the staff. This character is based on a real hypnotist of the same name, and was added to the strip as part of a contest.
Lila Powers, Dana’s mother, and more dangerously powerful. She had a crush on Ed but got bored with him.
Mrs. Jenson, an elderly woman working in the archives. Nobody remembers to whom she reports, so they’re stuck with her. thats a lot of characters

Please don’t ever try to be like Doonesbury. I love this strip just the way it is!

Other terms for “crush his innocence” are “facing reality” or “growing up.”

This week is selected reruns featuring Star Trek. Season has nothing to do with it.

Melvin. Kyle drew him first, when he was introduced as Roy’s nemesis.

Everybody needs a nemesis. Kind of cool how Scott used that word during Trek week.

I believe they mentioned on Sunday that they are doing “Star Trek” reprints all week for the upcoming movie.

Today you can get a replica of that chair for about $6000 plus freight and insurance. Genuine bridge chairs from the original series are currently available for $14,995 each. These are not the Captain’s chair, though. A genuine Klingon bridge chair from the DS9 series is available for $4995.

Seems kind of spendy. You’d think you could buy plans and/or a kit and make one yourself for a fraction of the cost.
