Yes, and someone lost their money for a Zagnut bar. Get over it. I am still hoping to see Rosie the robot and flying cars that pack into suitcase size for parking.

“1984” written in 1948 was only 10-15 years out

And there should have been Pan Am space ships docking at Hilton space stations in 2001.

Did the Jetsons ever say what year it was set in? I think a whole lot of people, without thinking twice about it, just assumed that 21st century meant “right away, as soon as it starts.” And, as Jay laments, in the 60’s, we expected to be much further ahead by the ’90’s.

And in 2010, we’d still be locked in a space race with the Soviet Union. People make a lot of the predictions in sci-fi that have come to fruition. But there are probably just as many that were way off the mark.

Ten thousand years from now we still won’t have antigravity cars that won’t need roads or gas stations. In fact transportation choices will be rail or bicycle or walking. Forget it. There won’t be any people either, just bugs and a few animals.

Let’s hope that version of the future never happens…even if that means no Gina Torres in a leather mini-skirt.

Yeah, I remember speakers saying we’d have flying cars. Just get in, punch up your destination, sit back, and wait while they take you there. We’ve certainly done quantum leaps in some things, telephones for one. But in others, it’s been better but not quantum better. Subconscious desires maybe?

Everyone else wants me to make them a copy of my personal flying jet pack. They are inconvenient because there is no refueling infrastructure for them.
I have to hide my personal home nuclear power plant.

. . . and nuclear power was going to be too cheap to meter.
