Sometimes I think that the Russians are one of the few people in the world who know how to respect technology.

    Look at their spaceships…

If it still does what you need to do, Roy, keep it. “You have to have the newest (whatever)” is just a capitalistic plot.

folks that buy something and then 3 weeks later when the newer model comes out they go buy that one because it is newer are just wasteful. If it is still working why replace it. If it is a year old or more just update the software.

Put him in a situation wherein he can’t buy a new iPad for an extended period. For example, the truck that’s supposed to deliver product to all of the stores in town could have been stolen, meaning that nobody in town has any.
    []
Couple that with something that would keep him from making an online purchase (such as his credit card being put on ice due to suspected fraudulent charges… after all, who buys a dozen life-size Star Trek standees in a single purchase?), and watch him sweat it out as he can’t get a new iPad.
    []
Leave him like that for about a week or two and see what happens. He’ll either go around the bend or develop a new appreciation for what he’s already got.

First Generation users have their place in the market; they upgrade and others can purchase their perfectly good technology at reduced prices.

I want to say “Yes, definitely!” Why keep wasting all that money, and thus, potentially put his and Kathy’s financial situation in jeopardy? However, if they make enough money and have it “to burn”, forget it. The value of money and saving is usually only important to those who don’t have enough of it. Then again, if he’s a gadget addict, Kathy should try taking him to Debtor’s Anonymous. Even if they’re not in debt, DA works under the philosophy of reducing wasteful spending. That’s my $2.00 worth. ;-)

YES! Roy does need help, & Kathy should not give in (even in her head) so easily. She has convinced him of other things before….

Should Kathy be concerned that Roy may want to trade her in (some day)?

I think he (and any other Apple addict) does need help. Each new Apple product is only slightly better than its predecessor. And what you might use them for, well, you were already getting it done somehow before the new version came out. There is definitely some kind of psychologically unusual behavior going on here. How many other products are there where people camp out for days to be in a line to get them?
