    yep. Fair use or reasonable use.
    One of the reasons I’m pretty careful with sourcing (besides the obvious wanting to get it right) when writing non-fiction. If I quote something in a book, I list the article or other source it came from.
    In recent books that used Bible quotes, I used four public domain translations. While not as easy to read as the modern ones, even the early 1900s ones with modern language are still under copyright, thanks to Sonny Bono’s “Mickey Mouse Protection Act” as it’s sarcastically called.
    I’ve wanted a 50 year, non-transferrable, humans only, one time copyright. 50 years is plenty. Non-transferable and human only would eliminate most of the theft by corporations of copyrights. If a person creates something while working for a corporation, that person owns the copyright and the corporation must license it. No 402 year copyrights like Cambridge claims (not recognized outside the UK) on the King James.
