Anyone want to venture a guess on how many times this happened between, say, 1400 and 1900 CE?

    Anyone?

Well, seeing as only Israel officially uses CE, (Common Era) as opposed to A.D. (Anno Domini), that limits the geographic region of your question to what is now Israel. So prior to 1400, the land was taken by the Ottoman Turks an held by them until 1917 when it was surrendered to Allenby. I suppose that’s one. (Much of the by 1850 empty land that is now in Jordan and Israel had previously been purchased from the Turks by the Jews, starting around 1850 and terraformed by the Jews moving back from Europe.) The San Remo Conference changed the land to a League of Nations Mandate in 1920, so that’s two. Then, when the Mandate ended and Israel became independent in 1948, three.

    So, three.

Common Era, Before Common Era. Lots of non-Christian groups use it.

You mean all those history channel shows I watch come from Israel? Wow! And I thought the whole world had gotten taken with the idea of using C.E.

The texts coming from the Episcopal Seminary in Sewanee, TN use the BCE and CE formats for dates.

And I think that island looks like it could be the green for a very nasty golf course somewhere.

Their armies don’t like them. The boats are leaving them on the island.

Rodney’s wearing his naval uniform over his armor. Have we ever seen him without armor on?

I thought Israel used the Jewish calendar, according to which we’re now in the year 5770.
