Now that’s what I call optimism with a soupcon of frugality.

In the “B.C” and “Wizard of Id” strips anything from the 21st Century AD can show up in them.

There are people who don’t even believe in any kind of god; but, they think that their marriage won’t be a valid one unless they have a church wedding with an ordained minister officiating.

Here in Oklahoma, a couple has to do after meeting all of the requirements for getting a marriage license is to find someone authorized to sign it and file it for them.

Wedding ceremonies and vows are not even required.

There are folks who want the song “Whether Thou Goest” to be sung at their wedding.

The words for that song are taken from the Bible’s Book of Ruth. But, Ruth didn’t say those words to a man; she said them to her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi.

I though the song “Whether Thou Goest” was in answer to the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go.”

Oh, you meant “Whither”? I see, that makes more sense.

Still, absolutely nothing in your comment has anything to do with the strip, does it?

Well, I guess that in the “B.C” and “Wizard of Id” strips anything from the 21st Century AD can show up in them.

You can get ordained online at Universal Ministries and legally perform weddings.
    I did one last year.

It’s true enough that the Song of Ruth is misquoted at weddings (in the Hebrew the gender is feminine for both object and subject), but the same thing happens with a certain passage from Lamentations when applied to the Passion (in the Hebrew the gender, again, is feminine, referring to Jerusalem).

Weird things happen in translation. And, in syncretism.

Apropos to the strip not in the least, of course…;)
