This is at least somewhat confusing?

    @ Robert Landers – Ok, just a guess….
The poor and needy are trapped in a maze created by austerity, poverty, unemployment, lack of training, et al. Not only are they lost in the maze, but the maze is so massive they are effectively alone within the maze and either too tired or too lost to try and find the way out. The only ones able to look down into the maze to guide the man are either apathetic or profiting for the trapped person’s predicament.
@ Radish the earth tourist – The Koch brothers took the cheese. They’re also making moves to buy my area’s local newspaper.
The Koch brothers are to the USA what Rupert Murdoch is to Australia and Britain. Read the biographies, and don’t use Wiki.

“Looking for the exit from the maze,”

Even though a person has knowledge of how to navigate the maze, it is very difficult to do so since it takes a modicum of money. Even the working poor have disposable income, even though it may be a pittance, that can be used to better their condition. For the man in the maze there is destitution. There is no worry about paying the rent or mortgage since he can’t afford shelter. There is no concern for car payments. He doesn’t have one and couldn’t afford to drive it if he did. There are no funds to afford a place to clean up or buy clothes to make himself presentable to job hunt. All monies received are dedicated to survival.

We pass this man with the thought of him as a lazy, stinking bum panhandling to get enough money for the next bottle of wine and may view him with contempt. He may be a lazy, stinking bum after a bottle of wine, but he may also want to just get enough money to get out of the maze.

That was a very good and even compassionate post! Unlike the incredible and un Christian post by Ima (IS Ima an actual person?) It was also all too truly an unfortunate one. One of the greatest teachings of Jesus Christ was compassion, and love, and even forgiveness of others. If we are even possibly going to refer to the US as a Christian nation, then we must reach down an economic helping hand to these poorest of our citizens. Otherwise, we are certainly no better than the Muslim countries that some here like to call so very evil!!

Thank you! That was indeed a very reasonable explanation!

Ima’s just waiting for a new translation of the Bible to be “discovered”, where Jesus threw the poor out of the Temple because they were bothering the moneychangers.

Austerity is working very well for the two groups it benefits most: The rich, and those who find the poor morally repugnant and deserving of suffering.
