Really, I guess they really do have lower prices.

Good to know when I need something one would find there.

I had to look this up!
Apparantly Wal-Mart has a strict no-chase policy that Rutner, who’d only been on the job four months, violated.

“They said this is a non-rehirable offense,” Rutner said. “At the age of 65, I can’t even come back and become a greeter.”

It’s a stupid policy until you throw in lawyers. I’m sure someone figured out that Walmart could lose millions if an employee were injured chasing a crook.

Nomad, it’s reassuring to see you type “loose’” instead of “lose.

If you wonder why it’s reassuring, then it’s even more reassuring.

ANTHONY: That comment was pretty shallow.

People typing “loose” instead of “lose” is one of my pet peeves. I see it increasingly done by both the right and the left. It’s become so prevalent I’m beginning to see it in actual newspaper articles.

I gave up long ago trying to correct people. If you had anything constructive to say to NOMAD, you would have said it, and then you could have corrected his spelling at the same time. But obviously you have nothing of importance to say.

There is a certain Moose that haunts this site that can’t spell for a lick. I don’t recall you ever having a problem with that.

You see, the problem here is that the dummies at Wal-Mart forbad chasing crooks because their employees may get hurt . They actually BELIEVE that life is more precious than the merchandise. Someone needs to straighten them out.

But you also didn’t say anything about the cartoon. Obviously you have nothing of importance to say!

Of course, it bears repeating that if you wonder why it’s reassuring, then it’s even more reassuring.

Wally World still has the no arrest policy for thefts under $25. I you want something really cheap, just walk out with your favorite DVD.

Banks and stores set policy not to pursue in large part due to the NRA obsession with having everyone armed. As this has been happening, and more people are getting killed in the cross fire, leaving crooks for the cops to handle is NOT A BAD IDEA.

Nomud & NutzoConMan it’s not a stupid Policy It’s True

Fact #1 A few months ago two Employees from a Best Buy in Colorado were fired because thet ( the two now EX-employees) chased after a shoplifter who attacked thier manager with a knife & tacked the perp but the perp got away & both men lost thier jobs by chasing & tackling the armed shoplifter.

Fact #2 In Southern California in the city of Bellflower a courtesy clerk for local supermarket saw a shoplifter stealing something so the courtsey clerk decided to chase the shoplifter… BIG MISTAKE As soon as the courtesy clerk stepped outside the store to get the shoplifter there was his partner in crime who was the getaway driver saw the courtesy clerk jump him & viciously stabbed him several times leaving him seriously injured. And what was the Shopliffter stealing? Several boxes of spaghetti!!!

So that’s the reason many major retailers & Big Box Stores
have a zero tolerance policy against chasing after shoplifters!
& believe me I value my life more that a box of noodles or a high-end digital tv set

Just another example of how stupid “zero tolerance policies” are.

There’s a difference between not encouraging your employees to chase shoplifters, which is their intent, and firing them for it.

You can even put in their “employee handbook” something like “we value our employees lives more than our property. In the event of a robbery, please don’t be a hero”.

But to fire them for it is ludicrous.

Oh come on Anthony 2816, ya missed the irony in my second misspelling.

… and why are you beating on me about Roe v. Wade? It hasn’t even been mentioned for a while.

  20. cdward

    cdward said, 27 days ago

churchill, I agree with your above comment entirely. The zero tolerance stuff has not been particularly helpful, and the note in the employee handbook would have been perfectly appropriate. I suppose the only justification would be if the staff had been told ahead of time that they would be fired for chasing thieves – but what are the odd?

BTW, regarding grammar pet peeves, mine is using “to” when it should be “too.” As in “There are *to* many grammatical errors today.”

CDWARD: Yes, that bothers me too/to/two!

As in “People here spend too much time arguing with a putz named Scott!” (Myself included)

SCOTT: I happen to agree with you that the country has become, for lack of a better word, more feminized. But you’re lack of historical perspective, religious dogma, general intolerance and misogyny, makes your point moot.

In this case, it is not because of “feminization”, but because of economics and lawyers.
