How is the government (which is broke) going to take on the costs of the healthcare industry?

I’m still trying to figure out how, if we’re broke, we can send billions to Israel each year.
Or afford to launch an unprovoked and very costly war on Iraq.

Mr. Obama, please stay away from my doctors and hospitals! We are doing fine without you!

The government isn’t broke and the health-care industry itself says it has problems. The most efficient system would be single-payer, but since the banking/insurance industry runs Washington, some compromise form of national coverage will be formulated. It will be an improvement for a large proportion of our population.

“Mr. Obama, please stay away from my doctors and hospitals! We are doing fine without you!”
We’re 37th (behind places like Morocco!) in terms of health care and paying 15% GDP for it. This is “fine” with you?

Dred-
Ha! I call trick question! It doesn’t matter how much it costs for a self-employed guy with a family of four - Anthem Blue Cross will find a way to retroactively cancel your coverage if you ever get a serious illness!
My apologies, I know it’s not funny, but I was amazed that they were on the news just days ago with another retro-cancellation, so soon after they had to pay 9 million to a cancer victim for the same thing!

NoFear- The 53 million Americans (out of 300 million total) with no health insurance would beg to differ that they’re “doing fine.”
The pols tell us that Canadians have to wait for treatment under socialized medicine, but they don’t tell us that the uninsured die under for-profit medicine. They also don’t tell us that we HAVE socialized medicine - for prison inmates…

Ask people if they want somebody to cost health-care costs and they’ll say yes. Ask these same people if they’re willing to give up control and personal choice of their health-care , they’ll give you a loud and emphatic, “No!.” This is another Lib Money-Power grab looking for an excuse. I’m all for asking the Doctors and Hospitals how they would like to handle health-care costs. Obama still has to find his original birth-certificate anyway…

Well Dred you may have your five hour crickets but I have my 20. Can no one answer the question?

Puppy, your last comment makes you sound even more paranoid than usual.
Do you honestly think that Obama’s goal here is solely to make a lot of money for whomever you mean when you say “Libs”?
That’s really bizarre.

I think Libs by nature can’t leave anything alone and are apt to drag whomever they can however they can into negatively over-reacting to the realities of Life. They have an irrational need to be loved and affirmed by their peers and have little ability to resist being led astray by compromise and evil.
The source of all evil in the world is not Bush/Cheney and their eight years in the White House. Nor are present day Libs up to running a benevolent centralized Democracy on their own as the antidote to mankind’s ills. In fact , when you scrutinize their activities you find that they are the first to try fascistic methods to enact their plans…forcing abortion on the rest of the world? Who in Mexico asked for our benevolent help in aborting Mexican children? How about in Muslim/Middle-East Countries? Why don’t Libs rail against Chinese civil rights abuses? Why don’t they speak up against China’s One -Child policy and little girl babies being drowned in buckets as soon as they are born?
You can say abortion is not the issue around the world that is here in America. But I say it shows exactly where your hearts are (and are not). Even if it is not important in the sense of the bigger picture (which I disagree with), it is the first issue you Lefties trot out to push for “freedom” around the world. It also shows what is important to you in your pursuit of other goals. You have a basic world view that is un-reliable and un-fathomable by traditional and rational standards.
And given these facts , I think you can start to see why people are suspicious of Liberals and their actions. I know it goes both ways - but that’s why we have a democracy :^)

“Chances are pretty darned good that my health care costs will go down under a nationalized plan.”
I’m glad you leave your health care to chance. Too bad for you that the extra taxes raised from the populace will overshadow the “free” healthcare you’ll get rationed too you. Look to Great Britain’s or Canada’s 50%+ tax rate and tell me that’s better.
