Before any liberals out there bash Apple allow me to ask you personally one question. Last April 15 did you take even one penny deduction for interest you paid on your home, or a child deduction or a health expense deduction etc etc If you did then you did exactly what Apple did. They simply obeyed the tax law as written by Congress and signed by the President. They took legal deductions exactly the same as you. Why fault them for obeying the law? Even the liberal Senators had to admit they did nothing wrong.

The tax law was written by and for the corporations. Just because they did not legally wrong doesn’t mean that they are morally just.

I haven’t owned an Apple product for over 10 years and until they start acting socially responsible, I won’t. And as a senior on social security renting a home, I didn’t get any deductions.

Hey, Liber1, did you just cut and paste this from your other post? Was inane there as well.

Did you drive to work on a paved road or are you retired and living on your benefits?

And despite the penchant for the right to try and legislate morality, yeah – doesn’t seem to apply here.

“Render unto Caesar…” – “GOOGLE” it.

As Apple pointed out, it is NOT what Apple did, but the fact that all actions were totally LEGAL that is nuts. We do need change to not only see that PROFITS are taxed more appropriately, but also that more jobs, AND CASH are retained here in the U.S. to support the nation, not just a few individuals “lifestyles”.

“They did nothing illegal” is not the same as “they did nothing wrong.” Corporations don’t have to break the law these days — they get their pet Congressmen to write it to their liking. It doesn’t make what they do any less theft from a moral perspective.

Not only did Apple do nothing illegal they did nothing wrong. Probably 99% of Americans do not know nor understand the capital gains tax system for international corporations.. Here is a very brief synopsis and you can see Apple did exactly what they were expected to do. If they did differently they would move out of the US and nobody wants that..

The US is the only western country not to use the “territorial” system for corporate taxes. That means everywhere else in the world the country only taxes profits made in that country. That translates to mean: based in Ireland pay taxes on profits made in Ireland and Ireland alone. Profits made elsewhere have no impact on Irish taxes. Same with every other country in the world, France, Germany, England etc. except the US. We tax profits made everywhere and anywhere in the world.
Think of the consequences of this law. You are the President of Apple (etc). If you choose to be incorporated in the US, as your home country, taxes owed on profits made everywhere, if you choose to be incorporated elsewhere no taxes. So as everyone realizes all the big US corporations would move their homes to Ireland, Germany, France, England etc. To prevent that congress both Democrats and Republicans, passed a law. If you keep your profits made outside the US in that country you will owe no taxes on them unless you bring them back into the US. that is the law and that is exactly what Apple did. They obeyed the law and kept billions in profits in the countries where those profits were made. It made profits all over the world and kept them there. If you insist that, we the only western country to do this, tax those profits be prepared to say goodbye to all our major corporations as they move offshore.
Your choice is A) to join the rest of the world and only tax American profits B) continue the don’t tax until money repatriated or C) goodbye corporations. Your decision.

Apple paid over $4 billion in 2012 taxes. GE paid none. Guess which company gave huge donations to all those Senators in the hearing?
