The Postal Union had great success in getting the most generous pay and pension benefits for it’s members in the 50s through the 70s. The legislature raided the pension fund in the 80s and 90s. Technology has made the USPS nearly unnecessary and their overhead far exceeds the money they take in. There will be more cuts to come over the next few years.
It would be sad to lose it entirely as there could be circumstances in the future where disaster makes the ability to receive and pay bills or get paychecks by computer impossible and having a postman available would be the only way to take care of business.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Congress mandated that USPS put money that should be used for business in to a pension fund. That is why we are losing Saturday mail. People who are paying way too much for cable and cell phones should demand afordable broadband where they live. Why get a paper bill every month for years when an electronic bill will do?

to be honest 90% of my mail is junk mail. I have only used two checks this year one for gym membership and one for car plates. my bills are emailed to me I pay for them on the internet. And on my bank america card I do not even have to worry about making the payment if I forget it does it for me. Also need to close some of the offices they can ship the sale of stamps to stores and I do not need 20 offices within 20 miles of me
